I found this lock when I went out for a walk...ImageImage... H= 2.3 inches., W= About 1 inches., Key hole= 0.3 inches around.
How should I go about picking this? Any suggestions?

What the heck happened to that poor keyway? Did someone try drilling it in the wrong spot?

padlocks with "dual ball bearing locking"

Postby jeremy » 11 May 2006 4:11

Correct, Jason, the lock design you're talking about is not shimmable. Why? Because the two ball bearings are held in the cutouts of the shackle by a solid chunk of metal rather than by springs. That chunk of metal is a cam that is rotated by the lock cylinder. The cam has cutouts that align with the ball bearings when the key is turned, allowing the shackle to simply push the ball bearings out of its way.

How to open a Brinks padlock.

Postby jeremy » 11 May 2006 14:02

What should you do? Pick it. Don't let pick-resistant pins stop you! Or try shimming it like Jason or Bonez suggested. Nobody said this lock is resistant to shimming.

1. I don't have a lock pick set or stuff... I will get my dad to remember where the hacksaw stuff is but I don't know... Using shims made from a soda can does not work so I will need something harder... Lemme go look brb.
