Be aware that you leave any BS rated mortice lock now not BS rated at all if you don't replace the case or H/P which I suspect, like most, you don't and it's now a simple entry for anyone with a couple of wires...

Good luck to you but there is no way I would have been doing warrants after just 3 months experience.

i thought thats what you meant, its still not an nde opening and certainly not picking, its worth remembering that even a small hole in a bs lock renders it no longer british standard, and in the slim event that someone is burgled through your hole, could render the householder uninsured and you in court, a slim chance but still a chance.

I have been doing this for just over 2 years now and have only done 2 warrant jobs, both for letting agents whom I do other work for. I dont think I would have even considered doing warrant work after 3 months and still now feel I have a lot more to learn before I venture into that area on a larger scale.

London Lad, Dont take this the wrong way but I feel warrant work should be done NDE on the whole and my average isn't as high as I would like it to be before I try to get into the warrant side of things maybe you should look into more training quickly to get yourself up to speed rather that trying to learn it yourself.

Hi

I know that 3 months is not a long time before going on warants but I am getting by just fine and some officers that I have been out with have said i'm getting on better than some locksmiths that have been doing it for years. Although I know I still have a lot to learn, I am learning everyday and this forum is a big help. I have good success picking euro profiles and 2 and 3 leaver mortis locks, I also have a chubb 114 decoder which works great and the secure fast decoder which opens a lot of sitex doors i've come across. I have only had the cb curtain pick for about a week and i've had some success with it on the door but seem to struggle with era's. I have ordered a era decoder from safe ventures so hopefully that will get me over that problem, but it would be nice to be able to use the curtain pick to open them to. I don't have to use the drill to much but obviously if it aint picking then you have to get in some how.

ah but many now come with vps and interactive on ! not even martin newton sells a tool to deal with these.

i disagree with got to get in somehow, so drill, thats shoddy and gives those of us that dont a drill a bad name, as all tarred with same brush.

Hello Pinky

I don't want to be drilling locks open at all which is why I have asked on here for some help using the cb pick. I will always try and pick first and if I had lots of time then I would keep perservering until I pick it open but time is not something you get much of on warants, as you probablly know. I only use my drill maybe two or three times in a week its not like i'm drilling everything, and once i've mastered the cb pick i'll have no excuses to drill any locks.

All,

When I stripped an era down today I noticed some of the leavers have false gates above the real gate and some below. When you say do the high lifts first then I guess you mean to lift the leavers with the flase gates above the real gate first and then tap up the other leavers with flase gate below the real gate after. Sorry if its a dumb question but just wanna make sure i'm doing it the right way round

Oh my god I just done it. Picked an era twice, nearly had an orgasm. All I can say is thanks to everyone who replied to this thread, wouldn't have done it without the great advice on here. Gonna goto my van now and grab all my era's :lol:

yes thats the right way round.
and im fully aware of being pushed for time on warrants, the contract im on gives me 10 minutes a door and we are allowed to drill 1 lock in every 100 doors we open, though i cannot remember the last one i had to drill.

even with time constraints and pressures, every lock picks, and within the time frame, without the need for a drill, i look at the likes of al, i dont know many locks that keep him out for more than a few minutes, yet he hasnt drilled a lock in anger in over 3 years ?
i know good locksmiths forced to quit the trade due to no work as its been taken by the cheaper pretenders with limited experience, have drill can get in , in the end.

i think its great that you want to be NDE and you want to master the trade, but i would prefer you to master your skill on the bench 1st, before learning from mistakes on someones door.

though in your quest to be NDE i wish you luck.

well done on the era i know its been giving you some stick but i guess you now know what we were saying about high and lowlift bet you wished you'd opened it before now :lol:

now feel the diferance bettween the two levers and you got them cracked

Cheers quicklocks. Yes I know what you ment now about the high and low lifts was getting a bit frustrated with it to be honest but i'm well pleased now. Got a day off warants tomorrow so will practice all day if I don't get to many calls.
