When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Hey ray now that you mention testing and such i managed to creat three more prototypes at 175degrees, and two other i would have to get measurements for you. I have also spent easily and hour a pick hand filing after the dremel and table grinder cuts to make the picks rounded and then finish them. I have read many people acclaim you pick finishing skills would you mind if i sent you once of my picks for a more professional review to add to my thread once pictures are all up?
Pm me if you interested.
Andy

Sure Ray, copy away!
I was actually going to do the same thing. There are a couple of members in the forum I've already chosen to send a couple of free sets to.
I'm moving tonight and tomorrow but hopefully I'll be able to grind some more out this weekend. I'll then be contacting a couple of the members for proper names and addresses.
Ray, I'd be happy to take pics next to a ruler so you can get dimensions.
Those two are the first ones, and they worked absolutely sweet on the locks I tried them on. You can feel the pin settle into the cut really good and be assured you're directly under the pin and pressing one at a time, plus they slide in and out of the lock so much nicer than a hook.
I have thought of patenting the design, so please do not copy to sell the design. Anyone here is welcome to copy for their own use, or copy to pass around free as demo's. I'm going to incorporate the design in some deforest type hybrids as well.

Your volcano looks similar to my hook I modified. I actually modified it to be able to grab the bottom of the pin in a Medeco bi-axial lock a,d pull or push to rotate the pins.
Needless to say, I haven't opened it yet, but it's not the tools fault, I just need to keep practicing .
Picks looks great!

That volcano thingy is funny b/c before I even scrolled down to the 1st pick/idea of it, I was thinking about making a small indentation on my half-diamond! How logical a progression! Good work guys, I'm going to make a few picks like them and see how they work... maybe I can bust this stubborn AM-700 with it!
E=Mc^2 = busted!

There is a template design for this type of pick at Lock Sport Archives, except it's a hook style. You can find it in the pick templates section under Brockhage Navigator Pick Templates. See the 009.jpg and 010.jpg

I was looking at the Peterson picks tonight, and noticed they made a pick just like the one's we're talking about, to grab individual pins. Looks nice, except the hook looks a little too big, maybe that's just personal preference, but for $14, I'd rather make my own .

Hey, nice catch. I agree, 14 dollars is a lot to blow on one pick, unless it proves to greatly enhace my pick-fu. I'll just grind one out tommorow to see how it works, if it's ok maybe I'll consider buying it.

Cool, that is a new one from Peterson, if anybody picks one up I'd like to hear a review. I wonder if they are going to make some for of their picks with similiar shafts?
