When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Right now I have 10 tension wrenches. I voted my favorite is a wiper blade style with flex twist because this is what I grab first. All of my tools are homemade, so I can't speak for purchased tools.
I have wrenches of the following designs:
1 feather touch made from wiper blade insert.
2 wiper inserts with flex twist.
1 double ended wiper insert without flex twist
1 single ended wiper insert wrench w/o flex twist
1 two prong wrench for double wafer locks made from a steak knife
2 wrenches made from small screwdrivers with plastic ball on end of handle
2 wrenches made from steak knives for the top of various keyways.

The two wrenches made from small screwdrivers are probably among my favorites too. When any other wrench feels wrong, these will almost always do the trick. Also the feather touch works great on most locks.

My favorite.. maybe its just my own trend now, but i take a wiper blade insert and make 1-5 diffrent cm bends on each and put htem in the top of the key way, i couldnt be happier. Perhaps its jsut me, but when it come to security pins(more than 3) the feel of the Neg pin rotaion and ease of aquiring false set is supurd<--think i spelled that wrong. Any way to top them off i dip them twice in plastic- dip, no sliding. One or two of them have scoring at the part of insertion of the lock and the scores grip the cylinder better, i tried sand paper on either side but had to replace it to much( in my noobdays) But the only time i really use standard and twist flex wrenchs is with kwickset's and master locks.

tension wrenches

when chosing tension wrenches,i tend to use a wishbone wrench more than any, the reason being is, that are far superior in tight keyways, when you use a flex wrench in these circumstances, you tend to take up a lot of your available space to work with
there's no such thing as gravity. The earth SUCKS!!

My best tension wrench is a toyota 2004 echo wiper blade (stainless steel i think) with a double ends, one for the side pins the other a shorter end. It has great response and is coveted by a few of my friends who started to pick after they saw me doing it at their homes while we watched tv. My second best tension wrench is an allen wrench ground down, it works its a bit stiff though.
