DINO 14-Pieces Toolset (Germany)

Postby aroetem » 21 May 2006 6:56

Hello,
as said in the "introduce-thread" im from germany, so I need a pickset for smaller keyholes. I found this Set while surfing, and i wonder if its good:

The shop says following about the set(translated by me, its a german shop):

This DINO-Pickset sets new records in Efficience, Handling and Design. Easy Picks with ergonomic, blue-metallic handles, high-quality-springsteel-tools and totally new constructed Tension wrenches. The both added short keyhole-tension-wrecnhes make highly controllable tension on the cylinder core possible. Shipped with a blue pcoket. This set is in really every point-of-view one of the best.

My question is, is the collection of tools a good choice, because, as far as i can see, there's no ball included?!..

thx for help

Wow, those are some interesting looking tools! From what I can tell they look fairly nice, though the size of the picture makes it difficult to tell, and I've never used them myself.

The assortment of tools seems pretty solid. You have a few hooks and rakes in there, the fourth one over looks like a half diamond, but I'm seriously going blind from squinting. :) I guess it depends on what your skill level is. I rarely pick wafer locks and have found little use for the ball pick personally, though I notice there is a double ball pick in there as well. If you desperately want a ball pick, you could always file that one down. I love the style of the two tension tools on the bottom right, that's the kind I use...I love the feedback. I've never tried out the ones on the left...those look very interesting. :)

All considered, not a bad set to look at, though I don't know how nicely made they are without seeing them myself.

They look sexy, thats all i have to say, if they work as good as they look.. like say rays picks, then buy them, tragically its either there plain and good or really super cool looking like the quickpick..well kinda and they suck, i have never even seen them, but i will check them out, dont worry about the ball pick, you'll only use it on wafers in which case use the snake or S rake the have in there and its works just as good. I am really impressed with the handles, but my question is, is the mojority of the manufacuturing budget put into the handles shapes and powdercoated blue? Or do they do they same quality in the tang, fleaxbility, how strong there mounted within those sexy blue handles. I as well as you am interested in anyone who has these and can post a good review, maybe some good close ups of the handles , tangs, and pick heads. I would deffinatly buy a set if there what there cracked up to be. Any idea on prices here, i am going to check them out...hmmmmm bluueee handdllleeess.

No! don't use a rake on wafer locks, use a ball pick - a rake will damage the wafers.

That set seems fine - DINO make some decent stuff.

Dunno... that set or Southord 'slimline picks' would do fine - get the one that suits your budget best. :)

They make one of thre better plug spinners, and consequently the only one that can spin double wafer locks.

I can't account for their picks, since the only set i've previously seen sold under that name were the Navigator picks, but these are also sold by Brockhage, so I'm not sure how to call it there.

The best currency converter (free) that I know of:
http://www.xe.com/ucc/

39.40 EUR works out as:

26.7824 GBP
50.3434 USD
56.2789 CAD

Meh... If I weren't so stinking poor right now, I'd give them a go... stupid impulse buying! :(

Andy:
Right now 39.90 euros is $50 american. Really that's a decent enough price if they're as decent as they are sexy. :) They also look like they'd be interesting to hold. I've never been able to get used to the "pencil-style" hold so they'd probably do fine by me, but they don't look like they'd be that comfy. Hmf.

pradselost, ohh they are sexy glad you agree. Ialso commend you search skills for finding a good set, ihave been searching for 15 minutes now and got nothing. I really want these picks, like illusion said its an impulsive buy, but i am becoming a lock pick collector, but i am also poor, i would deff. say go for it, i mean it is a great buy, they look sexxyyyy :D  and as soon as i get paid i am going to buy them, but before i rush into things here, has anybody bought from these guys? and how is it with US costoms if i order the set, last thing i want to to give Bush a free set of picks! But i would say its a helluva find and if you buy them fill me in on everything from companies shipping proccessing ability to th epicks them selves. Now look what you've done pradselost you've got me hooked on these things.

Very futuristic design. :)

Can't judge the quality by a picture but the set contains everything you need (single ball picks are not that important).
9 picks with handles + case for EUR 37.40 also doesn't sound bad to me.
I'd give them a try.

Okay had my second cup, i looked at the picture and from what i can see the tangs dont seem to run all the way through the handle like SO's they appear to be double rivited at the begining of the handle, i don think that would help with feel, i don't know i might buy them if some one post a good review with pictures. And i looked and from what i have found these are new and only seem to be sold in germany.hmm...

Ok, so the major thought is to buy them.. I'll give them a try, if my parents allow me to, and then I'll try to make a review, but dont expect to much, because i can't compare with other picks and dont know much, because i'm totally new to picking.
