questions about "Best" cores

Postby jgencinc » 25 May 2006 0:03

I got my hands on some "Best" sfic padlocks. They only have 5 pins in them. I can pick to operating shear line. When I picked it to unlock it, I turned clockwise. I noticed that I can pick it counter-clockwise, but core turns just a bit, maybe 20 degrees. It does not unlock the shackle, nor does the core come out. Is this normal? I want to have a go at picking to control line, but fear I'll need to make the tension wrench. When I make the wrench to pick the control shear line, is the tension still applied clockwise, the same direction for unlocking?

Try pulling on the cylinder when you've picked it 1/8 turn and it won't turn further. It could be you're hitting the control key shearline.. But not likely.

Good luck.

I figured it out. To remove the core or unlock the shackle it turns clockwise. I did finally manage to pick the control line on another padlock, this one has 7 pins. I think it is all beginner's luck though. I had the core out in about 5 minutes after playing with it.
