Brinks R70

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

LOL!

Jason:

The other day I dropped by Walmart here in Las Vegas and got the same padlock, maybe a day or two before your posting this thread. ;D As I was buying the lock, there was another guy in the aisle who just kinda looked at the Brinks discus lock he had in his hand, looked at my R70, stared at me awkwardly, and walked off. :)

I'm sure it wasn't you, but after reading your post I couldn't help but give a chuckle. :)

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion, but I can't seem to visualize what you mean by a hook pick without a bend. or do you mean a wiper blade without a bend?

Could you use Paint and post a basic drawing of a hook pick without a bend, I thought that's what a hook pick is. a pick handle, shaft and then a curved bend to the tip.

Thanks in advance for that diagram,

1. no bend it is just cut away.

2. bent at end.

when you bend it sometimes it makes alot of metal join up in the inner curve and even when i grind it its still hard to get in lock.

the wiper blades i have are about basic but dont fit at all in the very small keyway i got on a euro cylinder but anyway. :)

more practice tomorrow. 8)

Success. I got the R70 open for the first time. After work tonight, I decided to work on the lock again. Tonight I used a deeper/bigger half diamond than my usual one, and it opened in 10 to 20 seconds or work. Repeated again a minute later, took about 20 to 30 seconds.

I guess practice pays off. (not to mention those tips about torque control and backing off and then reapplying torque (thanks guys!). I think I was using wayyyy too much torque last week, no reason to be bending my torque wrenches.

back to picking, I want to open it a couple more times tonight, make sure it wasn't dumb luck.
