This schlage is killing me

Postby LockNewbie21 » 3 Jun 2006 23:00

So i went to lowes to get a lock to add to my lock board i got a schlage deadbolt thats keyed on both sides, I will post pictures in the morning, anyway i mounted it tested it with the key everything was fine.. then about an hour later i cant even budge this stupid thing, so i got interested adn took the other side not mounted and descided i would make a cutaway to practice... so it has 4 of 5 security pins, and to the left of the plug four what looks like false notches to bind it whne you pick it? I picked some schlages before but this one is wierd.. does anyboyd know what all this is? how was your success, if you have anyfeed back please help lol.. i will post a couple pictures for everyone else to help thme out, this really killed my spirit there for a while :x .

Do you have a model number you could post? Is it a primus/everest?

I searched the schlage site, but could not locate that number - i'll go to homedepot and see if i can find one that matches that number.

How long did you work this lock?

When you say there's false notches, do you mean a whole 'nother set of pin chambers in the plug? If so, this is for contractor pinning.

DB that must be it because its a comercial grade, i only got it becuase it was keyed on both sides so i could repin one and have the standard, yea there 4 holes milled into the left side of the plug which align with the first four pin holes, i must say for a Lowes buy, the schlage is pretty nice i think i might put these on my front door, might even throw in a medeco pin chamber.. might be over kill :D but still there great locks for the buy pick wise i dont know how strong they are never tested one.

Schlage makes a pretty good lock, indeed. They're still not anything in the way of "high security", but they are far better than a Weiser, Kwikset, etc...

FWIW, I always tension these locks at the bottom, applying counter clockwise rotation. The wrench sits nicely that way.
