When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

I was wandering around Wally world (That's Wal-Mart for those who don't know) and was extremely bored following my wife through the craft section, and my mind naturally turned to lockpicking, when I saw something interesting.
Now, don't laugh at my twisted mind, but I was looking at knitting needles. Not the tiny ones, but the big ol' steel darning needles or whatever they're called. Nice handles, contoured and angled heads. I was tempted to buy a couple (they were like $2 something Cajun) but I don't think my wife would have approved.
Secondly, I also found a relatively inexpensive carrying case. Magnetic eyeglass cases, which is what I'm using now as it's more compact and portable. I wrapped the picks/tools in a cloth to keep 'em from rattling around. (I can use the cloth to wipe the lock or picks when using lubrication as well).
Just thought I'd offer that for consideration.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just recommended a glasses case to a friend based on this post. It is amazing how you look at the world with eyes open wondering what you can use as tools and what locks are around.

Im not positive but I think that most of those knitting needles are made of aluminum.

i found the best pick case is one made to hold allen keys. I was looking around my shed a few days ago and found one perfect, it has all different pockets for different diameter allen keys, and had a pocket about 2 cm big, which was perfect for my double ended S-looking wrench. Just keep your eyes open and walk into your shed and look around in old tins and stuff. I've found heaps of stuff that is perfect for different picking tools.

i'm taking a Mag Light and putting 2 coin cell batteries in it so the light still works then i have the hole tube that the 2 AA where in to hold my picks. It will be light and it is made of Al it is also water-proof. So if i was in the dark i can use the light to c what i'm doing and always have my picks on me!

How're you keeping the circuit closed, if your batteries are so much smaller than expected? Forgive me if it's an obvious answer -- I don't know electrics as well as I should.

just the same as u would with a normal batteriey a small spring that provides the ground and gives the batteries pressure on top. i'm yhinking of going with an led. Then for the on of u just run the ground to the switch and when it is off the circut is broke so it is of. The reason i'm going with the led is that i can get a batterie life of about 4x longer at least from it over the standerd bulb. Also it is a much brighter ligh and i can change it to red so tha the light dosen't travel as far in my enviromet (where i live).

Might be worth just buying a photon and cannibalizing it.
I still can't see it, but let us know if it works out for you. It's an interesting idea.

i doubt a 3volt watch batter would have the amp rating to power a magnight light, exspecially for any extended period at all...
id recommend using a few watch batteries, and getting a super bright low current draw LED for the flashlight. might be near the normal light output of a normal mag, with very small batteries. still, the batteries wouldn't last very long... but it'd be more then enough.

Yeah a coin cell aka watch batteries and it will b runnign an LED not a mag bulb. There will b 2 of them for 6v total. That will more then run an LED for a rather long time.

i ran one led off of one 3v coin cell for over 24hrs and it was still bright. so with to i'm guessing about 36-40 hrs constant.

I went down to Wally World today and I was looking for glasses cases for my lockpicks and there was a perfect case for my lock picks and the guy just gave it to me because it wasn't for sale. It's just like the pxs-14 case but a different material and is velcrow, so it does the trick.
If practice makes perfect and no one is perfect then why practice?

6 volts will probably burn out an LED, put them in parallel, not series.

I kinda like the flashlight idea. If you (Dukemurmur) get it to work could you post some pics and what bateries/LED you used?
Thanx
