Wow, looks like the top pick got it's handle in a fight with a grinder and lost badly . What's up with that?

Well, just looking at the picture the handle of the top pick looks like there are burns and cuts everywhere along it. I may just be picky (no pun intended), but I like my handles smooth as can be, but as long as they work, and you don't care, then don't change em.

Are those teeth marks? lol

Yes it looks bad but as said if its ok for you then dont fix somthing that isnt broken otherwise run a file across the handle and straghten the edges.

Did you make it from a spoke youve hammered flat? if so well done.

Well now youve said that and ive had another look its not too bad that nice idea, a session with a engraver may help, first wipe a real feather on a ink pad and then press it on to the handle this way you will get the detail you need to transfer.

Another finish you may want to try is to get a piece of wooden dowl in a drill press and with a rubber band hold some wet'n dry paper tightly around the face of it, then on a speed of around 100-200 revs you simply press the dowl on to the handle for a few secs, then move the handle and repeat, this gives you round swirls simular to some shiney wrapping paper you can get.

Making a rectangle handle with a chewing gum cover on it may look cool as well

You know, when I first looked at your picks, I have to admit my first thought was "What kind of awful mess did he make of that top one", but as soon as you said you were trying to make it look like a feather I went back to take another look and you know what? It actually does look surprisingly like a feather. I think that the picture likely doesn't do it justice either. I agree that some ink or paint might be in order to really create the effect, but I actually like the idea. I would have liked to see you sand and polish it up to a nice mirror-like shine, but that's a personal preference.

Good work, and good thinking. I look forward to seeing more in this series of artistic pick handles!

it was suppose to represent a writing quill and the art of calligraphy because lock picking is also an art that takes a steady hand. i have a few started but its hard to ingrave in a hachsaw blade.it is a bad pick but i could of spent more time on it. i'm glad someone liked it. :)

Sometimes I place a pick through them for tension bars, mostly used to keep them together, acts as a bit of a handle. I may remove them when I get more shrink tube.

My thoughts are: "Why not?"

My only comment would be that they look a bit big as far as the heads go, but I pick with slimlines, so might be wrong.
