Then place a metal chisel right on top of that scratch immediately after cooling it and whack it with the heaviest hammer you can find  (a small sledge, blacksmith's hammer, or mason's hammer would be good--mason's hammers I've seen at every hardware store I've been in).

Lets not...

Postby Wolfman » 16 Jun 2006 13:36

Lets NOT try it with the bottled refrigerants...

Freon is a CFC. As we all know cfc's eat the ozone layer. The alternatives to Freon arent that friendly to your health. Liquid Nitrogen... GO FOR IT!

It was about 10 litres of liquid nitrogen, in the normal insulated holder. There was a demonstration with liquid nitrogen, and there was some left over, so the 2IC said "lets have some fun."

He found a padlock, and attached a chain to the end, dunked it, and than dropped in on the cement floor, indoors. Afterwards, he dunked the remainder of the chain and broke it also. Than, he started looking for a boot...

I'm NOT interested in the destruction of locks, I was just curious if it may work. (the spray) The only thing I seem to break around locks is picks... they were cheap.

It’s pretty hard to buy bottles of Freon today without some sort of license, which requires that it not escape from whatever system you are using it in. The bottled chillers and compressed air use tetrafluoroethane and some other similar compounds that are not CFS’s.

But liquid nitrogen is WAY cooler to play with!

I thought this topic would be an interesting thread to mention... I'm not going to go and try it, just curious what others thought.

And "unlisted" is my screen name, has been long before I joined this site. I've used it for a few reasons. What does bpc293 stand for? I have no idea, nor does it bother me that I do not know. Its just a screen name, like mine.

I don't really see a problem with my screen name, I'm sure an admin or moderator would tell me if there is. I know I havn't been registered to this site for a long time, but I have been browsing this forum for a few years now.

no worries, that'd be a funny "guest" name...

I do work for the gov't sometimes, and a while back some friends told me that should be my online name, so I took it.

Admin can change your name but you will need a good reason to, i think things are fine as they are but yes 'guest' would be a good name if it hasnt already been taken.

A real guest can not post,

If a post says guest its because the user who posted it origonally has been removed.

Funny, I tried the same thing at work. I dropped a padlock in liquid nitrogen and left it until the liquid stopped boiling. I then took the lock out and hit it with a sledge hammer and nothing happened. I then put it in a vice and put the crowbar through the shackle and was able to break the shackle. I got nothing like the scene from Terminator 2 when that guy gets frozen and smashed to pieces. Leave that for the movies! I guess I wanted to play Mythbusters so I tried this experiment.

I had warts for a few years until just last week. They all disappeared after I got stung by a wasp. At first, they began to spread and became inflamed, but they then suddenly vanished over night-- all of them!

Get the heck outta here! That's so odd. I had a wart on my thumb (right in the crease where it bends) that had been there for a few months, and had resisted even the freezing treatment. Last week I got stung by a wasp, and some time just after that it was gone. Of course, I hadn't put the two together, but that is creepy. I wonder if there's something to that. :?

Very strange indeed. I haven't been stung by a wasp in YEARS. I guess it was timely. :P
