How is your van layed out?

Postby Colin » 4 Jun 2006 14:03

I am just in the process of putting everything together I need to business, but I am struggling with laying out my van to provide a suitable working area, I cant seem to find a perfect system for stock, keys, machines, tools and working area. The van I'm using is a Ford Transit I would be intersted in hearing or seeing pics/diagrams of how others have laid out their vans.

Colin

I have a Fiat scudo and have 4 key machines, mortice, cylinder, jakey, tibbe. I have 2 side loading doors so i blocked one off and have key machines running across the left side of the van with 4 key boards above.
Stock is in the rear so when back doors are open the locks are their.
Tools are under the key machine bench in their own places that i made for this.

I have a 1000w inv in the back that runs the machines. I have a stool in the back so i can sit down and cut the keys.

I will try and put some picks up for you.

Ive got a Transit as well, nice and square in the back ideal for the job!

I have a bench running down one side with my key machine on it. Its worth thinking about a dual machine that cuts cylinder and mortice keys as this can save on a lot of space. Under the bench is a shelf with compartment boxes that i use to store all my key blanks. Under that i store all my cases, morticer, drills, etc

The other side of the van has racking for all my stock and a roller cabinet for my non essential tools. You can get cheap roller cabs from Ebay that with a bit of creative bolting can provide excellent van racking. Just remember to take the wheels of !!!

I will try and post a pic as well if it will help you out. But you have got to decide what will work best for you. Every Lockie van Ive seen is different !

Thanks for your replies, and pics would be great, I'm not sure if I'm trying to carry too much stock, and trying to incorporate too many things.

I am currently considering panneling off the rear doors, so that when opened I will have my keys displayed with my cutting machine built in. I am lucky to have a pull out canopy to provide shelter.

In this way it will leave the inside of the van for a working area and stock storage, only draw back is having to leave one area to work in another.

Any comments on this layout would be most appreaciated.

Cheers to all.
