Anyone seen this before? Hook with pivot bearing on top

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Isnt an xacto knife a fixed blade? im not sure.

Toi clarify i was meaning a stanley knife or simular, they have a fixed or snap off blade that slides in and out with a knob or lever on the knife body, slipped all the way back theres no knife, pushed out one click you have a small blade come out the end, the farther you push the knob the more the blade comes out, i
Instead of the blade you can use a pivot point and on the knife caseing you fasten a pick, this would mean you can slide a pivot point under the pick to stop in any position.

Im sure you realised this and its me getting the knife type wrong,

Cant wait for the pics and results

Actually, I didn't fully understand the knife type you were talking about. I DO have a knife exactly like what you are describing though.

In my own head I was thinking of the xacto knife with the removeable and replaceable blades.

I can see potential to do a project with either type, so I may try.

It's actually a cool idea!

mobile fulcrum

Postby raimundo » 22 Jun 2006 8:23

I think pickfish is onto something, a mobile fulcrum built into the pick handle could be pushed out beneath the pick shaft or completly withdrawn when you don't need it, somehow, the topic also gave me a concept for a type of pick that would be like a one tube one wire varient of the sputnick, a piece of tubing that could put out a hook at the end of variable size. possibly a guitar string inside a piece of stainless steel tubing. since the varience between a high and a low hook is so little, I would expect that it could be controlled with a small movement of little wheel or lever on the pickhandle perhaps even with the sensitivity to feel the pins resistance while doing it. I would expect to use heavier wire than is common in the sputnick though, or possibly some twisted cable with the end soldered against fraying.
