Schlage KIK troubles

I have a Schlage KIK cylinder that i'm having trouble with. The keyway is not only very difficult to manuever picks in but the pins seem to be under really heavy spring tension. Anyone have any tips?

I practice on an old one that was used outside for over 5 years. I use my version of slimline picks on it. My cylinder takes a lot of tension to bind the pins since it has a lot of wear on it and it is almost 2x times harder to pick it CW.

Does anybody know the spring strength in a schlage lock like this? I have one that a lockie setup for me (to make me go mental i think) and the springs almost push the picks down - there is a great deal of resistance.

Standard Schlage locks do have somewhat stronger springs than, say, an el-cheapo deadbolt would. But the difference is really not that striking. It depends on what you're coming from though. If you've only been picking Master padlocks this far, those Schlage springs would seem awfully tight.

He may also have used the wrong top pins or long bottom pins, if i was to repin a lock for a hobby picker i would pin it out of macs and make it high low high low etc maybe hes done the same, did you get a key with it?

If so is the key hard to push in?

It wouldnt be unknown if he was rushed and doing other things at the same time that hes accidentally put springs in twice and hasnt realised it.
