Question on Chubb Conquest padlocks & AVA system

Postby devildog » 24 Jun 2006 17:43

I really want a IK13 with the AVA system, and I know that Chubb USED to make this model with the AVA system installed (at least I think they did--correct me if I'm wrong), but it seems that the only ones they're putting the AVA system in now is the dinky brass one (really don't understand the logic there--high security cylinder in the dinky one and a standard 6-pin in the expensive goliath) and the one that looks like a concrete brick (IK57), but not the other ones, so I've two questions:

Are they not making the regular Conquest padlocks, like the IK13, with the AVA mechanism at all anymore, or can you still get it?

If I get one of the brass padlocks with the AVA cylinder and a IK13 with the 6-pin cylinder, can I just switch the cylinders? Are they interchangable?

Here's Chubb's site on the Conquest line if you want to see what I'm refering to: http://www.chubblocks.co.uk/howto_outbuildings_frame.html

Well the IK57 is all over here and ive just got one for playing with off ebay,

Ive also just got a load of the IK42 for the same reason from the same place.

As for the IK13? well i think they are still available but having not bought any im just going off memory from looking through the catalogue but that site you linked to says they are available in both pin and disc options.

I know things like the IK57 can be used with either cylinder but as for the others i dont have the experiance to tell you properly but i would hazard a guess that yes you can but you would need the correctly sized cylinder for it.

Where does it say there that the IK13 is available in both pin and disc?

Ive a few and want to strip them down also make a frew cutaways but i dont want to destroy one finding out like i did with the Granite if someone knows how they are held together,

Ive looked at Han-Feys article but its not obvious on how its done, if anyone speacks to Han regulary maybe ask him for me?

I'd really like an IK57--"The Brick", how much do they cost?

The one i got from ebay was a good price actually but new they are over 100 notes if memory serves well,

There are loads around here on lockups, yard gates etc, someone mst have had a job lot at some time and hawked them off,

You turn the key to unlock and a big fat plug comes out thus retracting the bolt, there is a grub screw that can be removed to change the cylinder,
