As has been mentioned, the Curtain Pick (CP) is for curtained locks! Use 2 in 1, buttonhooks or J wires for non curtain picks or buy a set of try-out keys.
ERA Fortress locks have been designed to defeat the CP and has a ward on the inside edge of the curtain to prevent the CP turning. To my knowledge the only CP that has been modified to account for this lock is the Chris Belcher 5g with the F wire.
Using a CP is pretty advanced stuff and unless you know how a particular lock works and what effect you are having on it with the CP you'll spend a long time scratching your head. SKS have just released Training Covers @£30 for a pack of 6 which are designed to assist in the training process by replacing the metal cover and allow the user to see what is happening inside the lock.
I advise you do a wider search on this site for CP posts, there are lots, and you will get all the information you need. Pinky Shrub, Illusion, and others, have all contributed major tutorials on the CP, 2 in 1 and picking with wires.
