When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Do not be mislead, tufnol, nylon, plastic even gears are not easy to break, you get your hand stuck in a lathe chuck regardless of gearing and you will get your arm ripped off.
Working for accident investigators i have seen and worked on machineary that has killed people i various ways from simply pulling limbs off them to actually mincing them to nothoing, i go to sleep somtimes with those photos haunting me,
A distant cousin of mine lost 3 fingers at collage, it wasnt even his fault, he was 2 years below me but i was still there as i did a 5 year apprenticeship, he was setting up a job in a Bridgeport CNC miller and one of his mates came up and played with the joystick, it rammed a 20mm longseries endmill into his fingers against the vice so be careful its not just yourself you look after but make sure you know whats going on around you.
I could go into accidents on machinary but to be honest i dont think the examples i have are for this site, it is a family site afterall but trust me everything that removes material from anything be it a file or 10 ton surface grinder, they all have potential to hurt, mame or kill.
p1ckf1sh, i had a mate die on a lathe as well, he was running a file on the edge of his work (we all do it lets be honest) and it got caught by the jaws and flung it into his brain, he lasted 15 mins i think.

Master: That looks sweet! Nice work!
dd: If I'm not mistaken, the laws regarding alcohol are the same in Manitoba. I was always able to order a glass of wine with dinner when I was with my parents, even as young as 15. I grew up in one of those European families that starts every meal with a shot of something strong. By age 12 it was normal for me to participate in those pre-dinner shots.
Oops.. gotta run now.. I'm late for my AA meeting...

yes, i understand that i should still be careful, and i am, but having vinyl gears keeps the mill from throwing the work at anything and from breaking the bit.

He went to the Uri Geller school - bent it with his mind.

What,
If in the slightest chance that your vinyl gears do strip on a cutaway instead of throwing the work you would wish they hadnt as a gear set on a el-cheapeo mill will be hard to get and quite expensive.

Check out my new momemade plug spinner, dependable and works like a charm.
Ergonimic handle and with two turns of the ring on the back, let go and consider it spun.
Any questions will be answered promptly, "just ask".
Enjoy.
