Okay i have a goodie i don;t think it was metioned. Okay so say somesays i want maximun security with my existing kwickset, so you sya well i can;t add some security pin. Now heres the question.
Is the locks function messed up if more than one type of security pin is used i will give you a little example. I thought of this becuase each acts just a little diffrent so i thought mixing them would confuse some one. Okay here was my idea.
Granted its only and expierment of thought i used Kwicksets as there well known
Ok Upper pins.
1- standard pin (stainless)
2- Mushroom
3- Standard Pin (stainless)
4 LAB serrated
5 Spool
Drivers are all serrated except pins 2 and 5 which will be standard.
Plausable if your willing to take the time if the person offers to take a good price that will jsutify the extra time?
If this would indeed work without jamming the lock and it would work just fine, then i am pinning one up and having a go.
Basically i jsut figured each security pin has it own uniquiqe feel and sound, so mixing them up might make it extrealy challenging.

As long as the diameter of the pins is the same as the originals then no there should be no problem.

I have a repinned Yale X5 that is pinned with no macs so that its the highest pin next to the lowest pin alternate, there are spools in every chamber and the spings are stretched, i havent tried in a long time but it still remains unpicked

This also makes me think that if the lcokie is just plain skilled he could possibly make a good shlage harder to pin that a multi lock and suck, the only thing holding you back that i can see is the tollerances.
I like to think that every security pin in thats in a lock you dont know can dely and expierence person give or take 30 secs. and to a noob 15 to 20 mins.

I think you could make a kwickset hard but there is still SO much room in those keyways compared to other brands and the tolerances are so bad on the cylinders the pins are pretty easy to bind.

Yea thats why i chose them to test, i mean you can bypass them and such, but jsut as an expierenment to see how it diffrent security pins react, then get me a nice euro paracentris key 6 pin and make me a goodie

Sounds like a good experiment to try, I am also a little concerned about the tolerances, but hey have a go at it and please tell us how it worked out.
Speaking of which, I recently worked it out with my old lady but had to work it back in again...

just this friday (or was it thursday?) i was rekeying a lock and found a situation that was freakishly close to this one. the drivers were laid out like this:
#1: serrated
#2: spool
#3: serrated
#4: spool
#5: serrated
this surprised me all the more because i had to pick this lock to get it out of the housing. when i opened it up and saw these nasties inside, i actually took notice. i even impressed myself!
i was rekeying a whole raft of locks that day (hmmm... that would make it friday then.) and i can't remember what brand it was, but this was an old demo model that had never been installed. it was hanging around in our shop so potential customers could poke a finger at it and nod knowingly.
