well, you could watch this video Krypos made, he used a pen-pocket clip and a hairpin for tools, viewtopic.php?t=13628

maybe try something like that.

Thanks for the reply. Pretty good that your contributing on your 2nd day...
I'ed just like to add that picking with hairpins is a pain to learn but way better then paper clips.

Take some locks apart to study them.

Not everyone starts out with making the perfect hack-saw set or buying a nice kit online, I started by hammering my tension wrench by ripping one of the metal pieces out of one of these http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl= ... l%26sa%3DN

and hammering it flat then folding it four times over in a vice and bending it. And my first pick was a safety-pin. Now I have one hack saw blade pick I made and I use a grinded down & bent nail for a tension wrench.

I like the nail better then the hair-clip tension wrenches I have.

SCORE! i got a post reference in another thread! yeah! ok sorry.

yeah, paperclips suck a$$. DO NOT BOTHER (unless emergency situation)
hairpins also suck, but are a decent place to start if you ahve nothing else. many a newbies here start with "that anonymous metal strip thing in their desk drawer" to learn the VERY basics. thats how i started, and now later today my picks should finally arrive from SO. so just keep your eyes out for anything that COULD* become a pick. even without anything more than a pair of pliers, etc. and read as much stuff as you can to grasp a solid idea of whats going on when you do pick. a lot of picking is mental concentration and visualization, if you can visualize whats going on, then you can manipulate the lock with the proper tools and achieve success.

sorry to go all zen/buddah monk on you guys, but its true.

on a related topic, i think buying or making your own picks is a bit of a journey one has to make, like a rite. you read up and learn and try it out with some crappy stuff you can find and then you decide one day...im going to buy (or make) a proper pickset now. and its an initiation of sorts. i think.
