Flush bolts are used on double doors, they are on the door edge and are operated when the other door is open. The flush bolts on the fixed door secuer the door to the floor and the top of the door frame, the second door locks onto the fixed door

On another subject, is there a name for the locking method where a system of gates runs flush with the bolt or (clasp?)? IE, found in dial padlocks or safes where the gates run flush with the bolt to prevent it from being drawn into any one of the gates. This might also apply to how lever locks work, and even pin tumbler and wafer locks, as each tumbler must be in flush alignment to prevent binding and reading.

I would call this a flush draw but I'm sure there's already some name associated with this principal. Any ideas?

No. I mean the principal behind a locking mechanism which uses precision alignment to prohibit any single locking combination part from exposing its individual value from the whole-- whether gate or pin or wafer.

flush

Postby raimundo » 12 Jul 2006 9:35

flush may simply mean mortised into the wood as apposed to screwed onto the surface of the door, the type of bolts shot by rods into the floor and ceiling to hold one of double doors can com in either variation.

A flush draw is where you are holding 4 cards of one suit and are drawing for a fifth to complete the flush.

Glad to help...
