just a question about the numbers

Postby Lokka » 13 Jul 2006 8:25

well, this is the question topic...

I have a lock, it has this line of numbers (10 numbs) in place that you cant see before you take the lock out of the door. Ookay, so the door is missing, and i have only the lock. I know that the numbers are there to tell a
locksmith how to cut the key for my lock.

so the question comes here,
which of the numbers tell the 1st cuts angle , and which the last,
does the 1234567890 start from the deepest end of the lock or what?

so im not asking which of the numbers mean which angle,
just which one tells the smith how to cut the fist angle of the key,
lets say, the looking direction is from out side of the lock..

have been thinking if the numbers are for angles (f.e. 9 = 90°),
but i doubt it, it would be too simple.

not too sure about the numbers but if the smith you use needs you to tell him/her then that may be the a bigger problem

meaning of the numbers too, it may help me to be able to pick the lock.
key code u know,
tells me about the key, i hope.

Could be the actual key code, but it could also be just a number that is used on a lookup table. Master locks for example have a 3 digit number on the keys that can be looked up on a table to tell a locksmith how to cut a replacement key by code. So to someone (like me) who isn't a locksmith, the numbers are near worthless. I say near since I've been able to use them to buy Master locks that are keyed alike on purpose.

Then numbers don't correspond to the cuts directly, imagine the security vulnerability. Rather they're just a random code to look it up with no relation to the cuts.

yeah, i thought so...
I wa hoping the code was crackable, as there are ten numbers and
ten discks at the lock,
and if i knew which head does the line start(if the numbers are randomed, and mean sertain angles(f.e.9= 40°)) i could.. what is he word...
dictionary...bzz.. conclude the meanings.
at least the "0" cuts would be wry nice to recognize, as there usuallu are
1 or several 0 cuts in the key..

the lock, well, its classified due i have no rights to speak about it by the judge of the forum, sorry if messing with rules.

and sorry if messing with messages (why an "if",??.. gimme an edit possibility!)
im tired and i have been working as an postdealer(sounds funny) and have been
running hundreds of stairs up and down for weeks now, and its my hollidays,
i got to get back to the "normal" rythm of life and time, s im going to be awake about 27 hours.. plus drunk.

after b.s., something about the key
so when i see the key for this lock, i can compare it to the code.
i have noticed that the discks are different from each other by the "size" or
"thicknes" or "deepnes"(pick a word u understand), but they are the
same in every lock, or at least in the 7 keys i have found.got to go sleep..
sorry i f all a b.s.
