those of you guys that do this for a living when do you give up. how much time do you spend on a lock before your like screwit and start drilling.
i no it verys on how much work you have lined up or backed up. but what is just to long to be messing around.

I don't believe any amount of rush justifies destruction of private property. Grabbing for the drill should be a crime punishable with a minimum fine of US/UK $2,000 and a 6 month sentence.

Now, if one must use a drill, regardless of time, and regardless of skill, then so be it. But that shouldn't be more than once a month or so.

Yeah, yeah. I don't live in the UK, and I mostly deal with Kwikset... so I really shouldn't talk. These are my reflections based on general consensus of the drill situation.

If the lock was certainly damaged, I would still go around and try all doors and windows. Remember, I once repelled down a broken skylight to get in. :)

What a load of crap,

The drill comes out if the lock is damaged beyond picking and for no other reason, there is in most occasions multiple methods of entry so another door or a window or such like can be compromised and the customer let in leaving you to try a few methods out on the door you cant quite pick quickly, if your 30mins or an hour into it and still cant gain access you should pack your tools up and sell them to a real lockie,

Most lockouts take between a minute and 5 minutes to get into with a guessed average being 2 minutes,

Drills for show picks for a pro,

5 mins

if i can't pick it in 5 mins i move to the next door and pick that one

if i can't pick it i find another way to gain entry

if all that fails then i drill the least expensive lock

In the past 2 years i have run approx 100 locks out and drilled 4 times.
