and really, there was nt much more i could say there anyway...um you forgot the link? hat was covered. i cant post the link for him, i didnt know what he had. in many cases i help people (as opposed to just bashing n00bs) in fact, just like 2days ago, lightfoot posted a question refering to hte foley class thingy- i have no idea whwat that even is other than a school thing, and they needed help with some lesson with impressioning, i have no idea really how to do any of it, however, i saw a similar post in any thread and it answered their questions well, so i posted a link to that thread for them and they replied the next day "thanks! that was just what i was looking for!"

bam-o. help. i help as much as i can, as do we all.

Well sorry but I have to agree with ol pickfish on this one. For a newb you sure are quick to attack the n00bs (I hate that elitist term). There was nothing funny about your reply maybe you meant it as a joke, but it came across mean spirited.

haha, no harm done :) I know I'm a noob. I admit it! I agree with Shrub though. This site is better than the MIT guide imo. Showing a cut away lock helps a lot more than a drawn picture.

I happened to be trying to learn (the first lock I bought) on a 4 pin (2 spool pin) padlock...I was wondering why the plug was turned really far and it felt like it was about to open. That site told me that a sign of a spool pin is when you try to push up on it and it makes your plug go backwards. Once I identified the problem, I figured out how to pick the spool pins pretty easily.

It was hard to notice, if at all.

So, if you had nothing to say and nothing to contribute, why post another article?

i cant post the link for him, i didnt know what he had. in many cases i help people (as opposed to just bashing n00bs) in fact, just like 2days ago, lightfoot posted a question refering to hte foley class thingy- i have no idea whwat that even is other than a school thing, and they needed help with some lesson with impressioning, i have no idea really how to do any of it, however, i saw a similar post in any thread and it answered their questions well, so i posted a link to that thread for them and they replied the next day "thanks! that was just what i was looking for!"

Smooth move, good thing done. The guy said thanks and basically said "I like the way you participate on here" with that.

Now, the post in question (in this thread) prompted me to say "I hate this kind of posting on forums". The OP has already said he was not offended, wonderful, he got a sense of humour better than mine, maybe, but maybe he is on here long enough to know you were joking or something. My point just was that replying to a new user like this is a pretty good way to scare away at least a few and maybe prevent lurkers from posting because they fear getting replys like these.

I am not trying to invoke a flame war or get this thread locked, I'd just like to point out in which different ways your post MIGHT be interpreted. No offense made, no hard feelings. Just my €0.02.
