When I look at a lot of other forums that have an edit button, I don't see a well organized forum. I see a bunch of crap threads that no longer make any sense.
Either way, if something needs to be edited, speak with a mod. If it's just to correct your spelling, live with it and get better with the preview button.

If you had read my last post correctly you would have noticed that the problem was that I was asked to add an option to a poll not to correct my spelling.
http://www.essential-bounce.com/forum/ one egsample of an organised forum.

There is no issue of adding a poll option, if you want to alter your post/thread then pm a mod or admin, spelling errors however is going a bit too far and a mod or admin will not waste their time unless the spelling error is either offensive or to the title in which case would mess the searches up in future,
If you get no joy from a mod after a few days and its a pressing error then pm Db, he loves lots of pm's

On the issue of an individual leaving the forum and taking their posts with them-- to what extent is the content of this forum the property of its author, verse the property of Mr. Picks?
If I were to leave here tomorrow, and asked Varjeal or digital_blue to delete all of my posts... would my request be warmly welcomed and respected?

No it wouldnt, there is a statement i think on the rules thread that anything posted once posted is then the property of LP101, if you left and asked for your posts to be removed (as has also happened in the past) your request would be denied,
Holes in threads are a big pain, its bad enough when pictures are removed from photobucket or websites that have been linked to are removed,
If its not in the rules its somewhere,

The first statement suggests that the original author retains his or her copyright to the post-- as it requires the permission of both LP101 and the original author to copy or retransmit.
The subsequent statement that all posts are "copyright LockPicking101.com unless otherwise noted" is only a supplementary copyright, and makes no effort to revoke the original author's copyright or their authority to revoke this site's permission to transmit their works.
As a publisher of content, lockpicking101 may only transmit or distribute an author's work for as long as that author expresses their permission, unless other conditions are agreed to in a legally binding contract.
I make this case only for the sake of the administrators should someone truly wish to have their works removed. Perhaps a legally binding contract should be drafted.
On a personal note, I don't believe that holes in threads is that detrimental to this forum's success. But if we want our visitors to feel inclined to sharing information of a sensitive nature (compromising the security of locks, for instance) we need to allow them certain assurances that they master absolute control over that information should situations change in the future (such as seeking high level security clearance, undoing breaches to their non-disclosure agreement, avoiding legal dispute, retaining anonymity on the internet, etc).

Raccoon: No, we have not, nor would we remove all posts of a user upon request. If you post it here, be sure you want it here. Simple as that.

UNLESS YOU CAN HACK IT OUT!
HA! i found the loophole. so raccoon: start learning up on hacking and by the time you are ready to leave...you can hack all your posts out!
really a joke...i would never want someone to hack LP101. and i read that one post about that guy who apparently has...another story.

You should ask Mr. Picks to send you 4% of the advertisement profits.
Due to financial limitations the light at the end of tunnel has been turned off until further notice.

I understand why you dont allow the edit/delete posts and respect that BUT i still do feel the board needs to be updated. (software wise). There is alot of good software outhere that would be of great benefit to LP101 members.

Phpbb is as it is to be honest, 101 is updated as and when a new release comes out,
I was speaking to Db the other night about mods (mods are the extra little programs that you can add to boards to do various things like a spell check for example) and it seems a lot of them do actually contain bugs or produce back doors for hackers so they wont be implemented on this site,
Why fix somthign that isnt broken, we can all have discussion, we can all post links to videos or articles and we have the other nice things like post counts and signitures and smileys etc, a few more smileys would be nice and its only a button click away but its no biggy its the info thats contained on here that we all come for after all,
Ive only recently found out that having activars on the last release number left a hole in the program wherby you can hack the site!! its been fixed in the present update and weve never had activars so it doesnt really effect us but it goes to show nothings impregnible.
