Current status of tubular locks?

Just wondering what is the general consensus on tubular locks. I've noticed that certain brands such Kryptonite and Master are replacing them with disc locks and other are going back to pin and tumbler, but I also still see them on U locks and other locks at the store. Are these companies that are not changing over ignoring the Bic Pen exploit, or are they silently upgrading tolerances?

P.S. I am not referring to some of the higher security 9 and 10 pin locks found on soda machines and the ones that have modified the keyway to not allow the Bic pens to enter.

Well a standard 7 pin un-modified tubular lock i would never trust,

I would. I know that some people in this forum can stare one down, but in all realism, there's probably less then 1% of the population that can pick one. Although Raimundo lives in MN too so I'm already feeling insecure.

There becoming outdated, the standards fall victim to a tubular pick, or just a wrench and a hook.

Even Ace 2's are that bad if you single pin pick the with the Tubular pcik or just a hook then impression it.

As far as there use, every thing i see that they used to secure are now the medeco cams, there more expensive but the security is 100X of a tubular lock.

They are easily beat with brute force techniques, and simply wrenching the door will work - then again this is a flaw with cam locks to a degree...

I dunno how many crims would walk around with a tub pick though, so against picking it may deter amn utter n00b crim.

i still trust them. why? because its too dam spensive to buy a tubular pick. and it can be homemade, but if your gonna go rob my house, why bother bringing a homemade tubular pick? and plus. even if they do bring the pick...they still have to find my safe.

Dont forget the question is for a standard run of the mill lock, one that easily can be opend with a toilet roll or bic pen, tubular lock picks dont really come into it, if they did i would say no tubular lock is secure even the 10 pin ones etc,

I didn't say they werent secure mabye i did i dont know i didn't read my previous post.

All i am saying from a studing lcoksmith, when i do go into the field, if a cam or Thandle lock is needed a medeco can is going on no questions.


Myabe for like a display case at say a jewrely store, or a filing cabinet, but thats all

i think im going to go against what i said earlier,

IS ANYTHING EVER SECURE ANYMORE?! things were simpler when we were young, and that goes for picking too. its almost matrix like, while ignorant, it is just a thing, but once informed, you must fear it all in order to stay aware. really, once you pick your first lock (no matter how simple) you become aware of how INSECURE EVERYTHING in this world really is. there is no unpickable lock, they can all be picked by someone. so is anything really safe anymore? nope.

whats even more odd, is that the most common type of burglary is smash and grab. break a window and grab whatever looks hot. but a thief could do one million times better with some applied knowledge of picking and basic police skills. strange i know. (ps- i havent stolen anything since i was 6 and i learned my lesson then, this was just my thinking about the stupidity of criminals)
