Picked / Never Picked list

Postby pinsetter » 17 Jul 2006 15:03

After talking to another member in PM's I thought it would be cool to share locks in your collection you've picked, and name the ones that you've been unable to defeat yet.

Here's my list:

Picked:

Padlocks:

Master locks #'s 1, 3, 5, & 15, several of each
Master 142
Master 512
Brinks R70
Brinks 6 pin Shrouded (still not consistent)
American 1105 (not consistent here either)
Best SFIC padlock (also Best SFIC cylinder different from padlock)
Chateau Chalet discus lock
Mountain Security padlock, 6 pin
Black and Decker 40mm
True Value weather resistant
Guard brand padlock
Reese padlock
Several other cheap locks

KIK Knobs and Deadbolts:

Several Kwikset, Faultless, and Weiser KIK and Deadbolts
Kwikset Titan 6 pin Deadbolt
Schlage Deadbolt

Rim, Mortise, & misc. cylinders:

Yale cylinder
Kawneer cylinder
Sargent cylinder
US Locks cylinder

3 International Wafer cylinders (automotive)

My unpicked list:

2 Medeco 51S's
1 ASSA Twin
Master #19 6 pin padlock
Reese government padlock
2 GM sidebar cylinders

My goal at this time is to get those 7 locks in my picked list and to get more consistent with a couple of the others.

I'd also like to try some of the more advanced stuff, like Abloy, Mul-T-Lock, KABA, etc...

If you guys don't feel like listing everything you've picked, just list those locks that are your nemesis and remain in your collection unpicked. Even list those locks that give you trouble getting consistency with if you like.

I need some new locks evidently... More importantly, need enthusiasm to start picking again though.

I need to get some more locks to pick for a unpicked list as well, i let nothing defeat me, the ingersol is pickable but not nearly consistant enough for my likeing,

Ahh, I forgot a couple for my picked list:

2 American H10 series Double Wafer locks - very easy!

so....Shrub, have you ever picked an ASSA V-10 Twin? I can get several *responses* from it, but can't get it picked! Since it's an advanced lock I don't want details, I just want to know if you've ever picked one.

Ive not had one yet to be honest,

Almost all my picking is with mortise locks including safe locks but admitedly mostly door locks, cylinders are secondry to me as the lever locks give a much more satisfying feeling especially if its with a hom made tool of decoder,

Thats not to say i wouldnt like getting hold of a few more cylinders and having a play but as of yet no i havent had the pleasure, my picking at home tends to be for practise and not fun/hobby i have other things that i do for hobbys but i will have a play with cylinders if its somthing new ive got whilst watching tv,

I've picked a V-10, but I'm not really consistant and I'd slightly altered the factory pinning. I can consistantly rake mine open / single pin pick the sidebar. I've been planning on writing something like Octillion's posts on the Biaxial for the advanced forum.

Ok this should be fairly short!

Picked:

1 Samsonite crappy luggage lock *

Unpicked:

The world!

* note the Samsonite crappy luggage lock is probably not the official product name, and I can't claim it was real picking. I happened to own one that was keyed such that all of the pins set about the same height. Any thin sturdy right triangle of the 30-60-90 variety will open it like a key (an xacto knife does wonders). On to bigger and crappier luggage locks!!

Picked:

Padlocks
Master #1, #3, #5 various specimens
Master 151
Master 576
Master 930/6230
Master/Taurus cable gun lock
Garrison 50mm (very similar to Master 151, same keyway, may very well be made in the same Chinese factory)
Abus 90/50
Abus 34/55

Mortise Cylinders
Sargent 6-pin (LA keyway)
GMS 5-pin x 2 (kwikset and weiser keyways)
Falcon 5-pin (weiser keyway)
American Lock 5-pin (schlage c)
Unknown 5-pinner found discarded outside my apartment building entrance

Other
cheap Garrison 5-pin rim cylinder - was my first non-padlock pick

Nothing in my current inventory is "unpicked" but it has been awhile since I've managed to open that accursed Master 6230. I think I want a nice Best padlock with a 7-pin core next, then maybe I'll get into either Medecos and/or some dimple locks. Time to hit eBay.

Since making this post I have more to add to picked list:

All are Mortise Cylinders:

2 Yales, don't know keyway, but both are different and neither are Y1.
1 Skillman
1 Schlage
1 Sargent
&
2 Russwin's

To add to unpicked list:

2 particularly difficult Yale's
*
2 Corbin's, both full of spool pins

I just haven't had the time to mess with these just yet, but they'll end up picked the next time I get a night off.

I have 10 Sargents (all keyed differently), 2 ACE II tubular cylinders, 1 lever padlock, and 1 cam cylinder on the way from an e-bay purchase. More fun when they get here!

Only been picking for a few months, but I love it.

Picked:

Kwikset (custom pinned with 4 spools)
Masterlock #140 (first lock and probably favorite)
Abus #55/40
Yale Wafer Padlock (unidentified)
Masterlock #140(?) (brass with black coating)
Random Desk Wafer Lock
Random Wafer Lock #AD197 (probably from a trash receptacle)

Unpicked:

Falcon SFIC
Kwikset (with all 5 pins)
Brinks Padlock (very...chromy)
(Everything else)

I'd like to find some serrated pins to re-pin my kwikset with. Even better, I need to find a nicer, affordable, easy-to-rekey practice cylinder. If anyone has any suggestions about what to work on next (other than that kwikset :-) ), let me know.
