My First Pick

I got my picks and 3 pin practice lock in the mail today. In about a half hour, I've opened it three times. The first two by raking with the...half diamond I belive, and the third time I raked the first two pins and picked the third separately.

I think I'm going to really enjoy my new hobby

Good job, try picking it pin by pin though.

It only gets more exciting from here. Keep in mind to practice, practice and practice.

I'm really having trouble single pin picking it... I can do it occasionally, accidentally though. I've read DB's guide and the MIT guide. It seems to me that the third pin never binds. It never feels any different unlike the first two pins once they bind. (it's the 3 pin practice cylinder from lockpickshop.com in case that helps)

at first you think you'll never open it.

but keep on practicing and practacing and eventually you'll get it.

my advice would be to remember the scale your working on. use feather lite tension and only slightly lift the pins. say 1mm or so.

Well, i figured it out. FEATHERLIGHT tension was the keyword, with emphasis of the feather lol. I see it now as more of a finger rest than a "tension wrench." That name kinda gives you the idea that you need put more pressure on it than necessary.

good work. next try locks around your house. ie. back door, front door, windows, etc...

i can do nearly my whole house but i still cannot get my front and side doors.

persistance is the key.

Good stuff hay. I used to grab my keys when checking the mailbox. Now I grab my state of the art bobby pin pick & wrench. Yesterday it took me 1+ mins. Now im under 10 secs.

I would like to raise an important point...


DO NOT PICK LOCKS YOU RELY ON!


Example: Your mailbox, your doors, ect.

Locks can get messed up, pick break off, ect. It can ruin your lock. Dont need that in your front door do we?


Oh and Mako whats up with your sig? " If you can't pick it you've always got the drill" I hope you dont mean that.

But I hope you enjoy lock picking as much as I do and have fun.

Right now, I'm working on a Schlage C with all of the pins taken out except for one (all of them are security pins...ones with a pointy tip). I cannot get it for the life of me. AND IT IS ONE FREAKING PIN... lol. I've read a post by someone talking about a "hook with a valley in it" but I'm not very good with things like that and I don't really want to risk screwing up what picks I have. Any helpful hints?

P.S. The lock still works with the key
