slimline euro sets too slim?

I recently got this kit http://www.lockpickshop.com/page/LPS/PROD/LS/C1510

and it feels so birittle to me compred to my folding pick set, everytime i pick a lock i feel like i have to use extreme force to pick a pin, is that normal? and It feels really brittle, should i take more care into using it or can it really take abuse?

They will take some abuse but you shouldnt be abuseing your tools anyway, ive said it before ill say it again picking a lock is like whispering sweet nothings to a woman, be gentle and kind and youll go far, be rough and abusive and youll end up with a broken tool :wink:

i broke her i mean the extended reach hook with the diamond on it. there's two like that. right where they bend there real thin. really a lightly sanded majestic pick is about the same size and stronger.

if you use less tension, you might not have to force the pins.

They are not too thin as a lot of our keyways require this sort of pick, you will struggle to get a typical american set into say an evva keyway. If your snapping picks you have too much tension, ive yet to snap a pick yet and all i use is slimline picks which ive thinned down even more.

i didn't snap it i bent it. yea i do start to uses to much force when i start to get aggravated. only pick i snapped was a Peterson. it was because i was frustrated. but the to extended hooks in the slim set. theres that one angle where they get really thin. thats what I'm talking about.

anyone have a majestic pick and a slim southord put them on top of each other not much of a difference is there.

what i did, being is the us, is i bought a 14 pc set from SO (the regular picks) and tehn added on 2 slimline picks, a short hook and a small diamond. this means that i have 16pc set, 4 tension, 10 reg picks and 2 clim. it works really well.

i got the so 14 piece too, i have 2 bogotas and im waiting for my 4 slim lines to get here, im curious to see how much of a difference in sensitivity they have.

Breaking picks may not necessarily be your fault. I haven't broken any, however, picks that are stamped out of a sheet can have micro-fractures from stress of production. You can deal with these by sanding down sharp edges/corners which are prone to cracking and allowing the crack to continue through the metal of the pick.

i dunno, it seems like mine are stamped, and laser cutters are WAY more expensive than stamps, then again mine are SO

... not that that's a bad thing...

I thoght the were hydrauliclly pressed, and falle used a water jet machine,

Either way i here SO steal is not as good as say HPC or peterson, but you shouldn't snap them, i modded mine so there a bit slimmer than a euro and i never bent one.

I might suggest you put tension on the top of the cylinder and ligthen up(on tension

)

Well i could be wrong as ive not visited a pick factory but in other types of production stamping is being made redundant to actually cutting,

It they are stamped you would get a curve on one side around the edge and a burr on the other but you dont,

Maybe its time to write to such places to simply ask,
