Heres my new stuff critisize as seen fit, and enjoy. Theres also some mods to SO picks.

Oh and the pics suck as always, i hate cameras, and they've been used so the finish is scratchy again... but you ge tthe idea.

Heres the SO mods, not perfect but alot better. There the standards by the way.



These are the tensioners i ramble on about, they go into the top of the plug, they fit just about every lock I own and give the best feedback(my opinion)




Heres some new progressive fulcrum hooks, the double ended one is one i seen from lock masters where the half ball is utilized as a fulcrum point, there design i thought was flawed the ball cavity must be removed to minimize interaction on other pins. The other hooks also have valleys for better pin grip... i hate raking.




And heres the collection in a nutshell, not the nicest... but i only have a grinder, dremel, and sandpaper.. so be nice.

was about to say that too.

It bears great resemblance, and i believe that you might be able to succesfully conjure a decent dimple single pin picking set.

I think i've seen the templates of those somewhere, but i can't recall where.

Myself, i've just started making picks, today, with hacksaw blades, 140 and 80 grit sanding paper and a bench grinder, and the results are nice enough.
Just now, i'm starting to discover the fun of MAKING picks, besides just using them.

You're way beyond me in making them though, and i believe that you are able to make replica's of the souber set.

I say wel have a homebrew challenge.. nothing to wacked out, just concentrate on one pick.


Thinks it would be a neat contest, Me, shrub, ray and whoever else, and choose one design, i would really like to see ray design another pick. Hook. ball , L rake, w/e and then see who can inovate it and make something more efficiant, you could even concentrate on a certain pick for a certian lock.





We could judge the winners by locking posting in the thread once the picks are in and just have a poll for the voting. Winner gets a kiss from Jason <--- that line will be quoted and flamed i can see it.

Anybody game?

To be honest my love is in mortice tools and there isnt enough interest in cylinder hand tools for me to take you up on it im sorry,

The prize puts me off as well to be honest but whatever floats your boat

some nice craftmanship there, tell me, if i were to use a dremel to grind away on some picks, what would be the best attachment for that purpose.

i want one that will last for a bit and wont get all gummed up while grinding

Slitting disc but not the stone ones you get with the machine,

Expect to use a disc or 2 per pick if you dont have a bench grinder,

I will tell you exactly what attachments, but how you use them is up to you come on i can;t ruin all the fun for you okay here goes. i will give some hints.

First and formost the most critical dremel part for inticate picks and fine detail... flex attachment

And a fine wheel bench grinder and a glass of water. Big coffee can works for me.

Vise is optional, i bought a drill press vice for 5$ and its actaully just a good size (my preference)

Carbite bit- Rounding edges, and sawtooth rakes, only round edges with the bit if you have the flex attachment.

Emerory wheel (dremel brand) there a bit thicker and last longer

Generic black emery wheel- these are far more thinner and will be needed for example a space balls with a snowman pick.. nobody quote that between the balls part.

Grinder wheels, these will grind, but with more presicion and take less material off use for straightening tangs.

Rubber buffer, polish, Cloth buffer

600-1200 grit emory paper- all the grit going up are needed.

Use emory paper in conjuction with silicon lube.

Light's for two angles, i just use the one on my grinder from the top, and a light off to the side.


SAFTEY GLASSES!!!, i wear mechnix gloves, but if your not good at the quenching deal, the bare hand it to feel when it gets to hot.

Thats it, not draw up a design on paper, and no it shoulnd't be a template and go for it.

Well basically a fulcrum is a point at which a pick pivot within the lockon a given ward.

Its kind of troublesome, becuase i was to make diffrent fulcrum points on the tang, and touble shoot a hook till it works for that lock.

I mean the three i have up there will work on all locks, but its more fun to custom make one for a certian lock.

The slimmest hook was my design for a schlage lock, theres hardly a fulcrum becuase the diagonal ward i pivot the pick on is relitively close to the pins to there not need for a massive fulcrum, and its thinner than euro picks, and i put a valley on all my hooks, especially the schlage locks becuase the pins on shlage locks and sargent and such have pointer pins than say a kwickset.

Plus the thinner you go the better the feed back, so find a good balancing factor for oyur style and your set.


If people are up for a competion i think it would be cool, not for braggin rights but just to see what extra people will go when they know there competing.
