this lock is awsome in its design. I am guessing all of the gears line up then they are pushed onto a bar that when turned unlocks the door? I just love the design though the lock looks like a work of industrial art. I want to see a vid of the gears turning when the key is inserted. I think it would be cool to see all of the slots line up at once. Oh and greyman If your book gets published i'll buy an autographed copy off ya I went through some steps to get a book of mine published and then I went back and reread my story and threw it away becaused I hated it

How does it get the information, if the rotation is blocked?

I'm not sure if all models of Fichet 787 have the blocking device. For instance, it's not included on cylinders mounted on the rear of the door. It may be that the decoder only works if there's no blocking device, but I have not got a Fichet decoder, so I don't know this. THere are also 3 versions of the 787 (original, S and Z). I can't remember how it goes, but some have 8 and other 10 levers.

Almost every lock should have some sort of blocking device, in my opinion. They, along with anti-pressure devices and 2d tumblers (eg rotating pins) are one of the few truly effective countermeasures to NDE techniques.

I don't think it would be particularly hard to add one to a BS style five lever lock, for example. Wouldn't be that hard to add one to a double-bitted lever lock, either.

You are correct, and this was a cylinder from the inside of the door.

The more I look at this lock, the more devious I realize it is! I see from the diagram on protections-vol.com that the locking bar is spring-loaded. This implies that there's a maximum force that the bar will ever apply to the gears, hence the picker won't be able to use large forces, and the deformation that results from them, to defeat the blocking device. Is this the case, n2oah?

If so, this should be as good as the best safe locks for manipulation resistance.

I'm not sure what the current price in France is for a new Fichet 787 barrel (actually, they might be sold in pairs). It would be in the region of several hundred euros (500 maybe?). I had a quick look on line and came up with a price of 117 euros just to copy a Fichet 787S key.

I have seen 787's on ebay though, you should be able to pick one up for less than 50 euros second hand.

Hell of a necro, but it is "mostly" a lever lock. It incorporates features of a variety of lock mechanisms, but the positioning of components is most like a lever lock.
