Slim Line or Regular? What about those Jackknives?

Postby Gecko » 24 Mar 2004 19:26

I posted this before but it got deleted I guess or something. Anyway, I was wondering which was better, slim line picks or regular picks? I live in the US but I travel a lot too. Can I use Slim Line for both? Is it easier/harder? Oh, and are those Southord JackKnife picksets worth the money?

Please search before asking questions.

For example, here are threads on the Jackknife pick set.

I'm sure you can see that it's been covered before. A lot. Slimline versus regular picks have been covered nearly as much.

As far as slim line or regular, it's really up to you. The slim lines are used in Europe where the keyways are tight but will work just as well in the US. You said you travel a lot but didn't mention where to so not sure which would be better for you. If you can afford it, maybe get a regular pick set with handles and then choose a couple of slim picks to add to the set. I mentioned getting the picks with handles only b/c I prefer them over non-handled ones. The choice is yours. I believe you can actually buy a set that contains both regular and slim line picks.

If it were me I would get the slim lines regardless. The 15 piece slim line set (get the one where all of the picks have metal handles) contains some pick styles that aren't available in the standard sets and these are the most useful picks.

Agreed. But, not only for the deforest , etc, but rather because the slimmer picks are easier to manipulate in the lock, and are useful for many tight keyways.
