I can't pick it, so I started a new one......

This is the handcuff single locked. It can still get tighter, but will not loosen.

The key and a shim

The shim can only be used if the cuffs are single locked.
First the shim gets inserted as far as it will go

Then a little pressure is applied to slightly tighten the cuffs, while also pushing on the shim.

Once the shim pops into place, the cuffs can be removed.

The cuffs are double locked by pushing a little pin with the back of the key

To unlock, insert the key and turn counter clockwise

It doesn't take much pressure to move the lock

once that is done, turn the key clockwise to release the remaining single lock. You will need to keep pressure applied in order to remove the cuffs.

Great post but things are usually locked for a reason and its not advisable to simply start another thread without asking a mod if it would be ok to do so,

As i said though its a good post and i found it quite interesting,

It all depends on what the other thread was locked for,

This is a bypass and it is a sensitive subject on both accounts it shouldnt be in the advanced section,

That said if it didnt have the shimming part it would fit in with the new theme of site in that advanced break down pics are allowed,

I think a go ahead for a admin is needed myself.

I was watching Criss Angel - Mindfreak last night and he did an escape in which he had to escape from a set of handcuffs before freeing himself from a wooden box headed for a wood chipper. Well, being into the whole lock thing I watched this escape very closely. Criss used a set of Smith & Wesson cuffs for the stunt, which are regarded as some of the best cuffs available. Well, when the cuffs were placed on him, they were only single locked. I watched this closely. I also noted that Criss wore a leather bracelet right above the cuffs on his right arm. If one was paying VERY close attention, Criss moved his hands around and very quickly removed a handcuff shim from that bracelet and proceeded to shim the cuffs open. He was very practiced at the technique and was very good at concealing the shim, but one could catch it if scrutinizing his movements. He did opt for a shim in the bracelet instead of a key, as opening the cuffs with a key would have been much more noticeable. He had the cuffs removed and was out of the wooden box in 15 seconds.
I told my wife when he did the stunt: "I'd like to see him do that without that bracelet on!" She, of course, said "Why?" Then I explained to her what I had watched and said "He'd have been mulch if he didn't have that shim to get himself out of those cuffs!"

I thought that first post really helpful - a lovely presentation of how handcuffs work (or at least that brand). Well done.

And i will be checking for bracelets on all escapologists from now on.....

I must say i do love that how, more then the stunts, it trying to figure them out.. very good puzzle if you would call it that

Unless you are an escape artist or you are held hostage, you don't need to learn how to escape from handcuffs.

this is fine and dandy but I use handcuffs on a near daily basis and I have never single locked a cuff.

Nobody who would ever use handcuffs should or would single lock

I completely agree, as anyone who uses these as you do, your probobly trained to do so.

I mean we don't need to know this, but its pretty neat to escape them and put on an act.
