Schlage Everest video

Just a short video demonstrating picking of the schlage everest cylinder with standard picks. This video demonstrates the method of lifting the checkpin with standard tools. www.LocksportArchives.com/Everest2.wmv

Nice video, and a wicked cutaway.

Did you make that cutaway yourself, or is it factory made? Its beautiful

Thats a very useful video - i hadnt seen the insides of one before and it was nice to see the relationship between check pin and other pins/plug. Not sure when i will come across one needing picking for real here in UK, but i will start looking on ebay etc for a practice one.

Surprised you mentioned that you thought the tolerences were not as tight in this type of lock. Do you think the manufacturers can afford a bit of sloppiness as it would defeat all pickers with who are unfamiliar with the internals? I guess making it costs more so they try to claw back some of the cost by not machining high tolerences.

thanks

That is a factory cutaway.

The tolerances seem looser to me simply because the check pin is in the mix. It just seems pretty straight forward as you pick the pins until no more bind, lift the check pin and then continue picking until open.

The check pin was never designed for pick resistance however. It was only placed there for a bit more key control which I guess it does accomplish slightly since it protects against hardware store duplications.
