fatso wrote:hey i'm so confused i am extreme noob. i lost/forgot the combo for my dudley lock and i'm trying to open it. i got the following numbers by using the method:
2-5 7-11 13-17 19-23 25-29 31-35 37-41 43-47 49-53 55-58
my dudley is black and the letter B is on the back. now it looks that i have two ranges that are differences of 3. what do i do next?
thanks!!
you take your two sets of numbers that are different...and then take a look at the diagram i made and you should be able to figure out the rest...and since your letter is B...i suggest you try to first add7 and subtract 7...and if that doesnt work...then try to add 2 and subract 2

ok...well this question has already been handled via msn....however if any one else has this same question....figure it out...you have two numbers...all you need is the last one....and if you still cant figure out what i mean...then give up...most people will probably say the same thing

I've cut up numerous dudly locks, I've only ever found 10 sticking points on them. However, some disks are different from others, some having holes in them and some not having holes, so you could be correct. I have seen this meathod online before, however, I did not think it would work. Kudos to you for trying it out. However, it it doesn't make sense mechanically of why this meathod workes. THe shackle only ever hits the false gate notch, and never the other disks itself. There should be no difference if the dudly is made properally. Even then, its coincidence that it works in a +7 -7 range.

maybe you could list the differences between the two locks that opened and the two that didn't...because i know my method works...i just dont know on which locks it will work and wont work...so by stating the differences you would be helping out alot
thanks

I have a standard dudley lock with a blue knob on it. My original combo is 44,40,10. The code under the lock is 104440 and the letter on the back is A. If I break up 104440 into three groups it would be 10,44,40. Now if i unscramble them I get a pair like 44,40,10 which is my original combo.
Who know's maybe this code under the lock could mean something. Or maybe not. Well we gotta' find out.

I never get consistent results when i try to find sticky spots...
sometimes it's 10-14 other times its 11-15 other times its 10-13 and what's worst... i sometimes get it bang in the middle so i don't know which one.

try repeating your test on other combo locks..
i have got some to work on my own way to open my master combo locks
but sometimes it doesnt work out on some because the "disks" that have the spots are usually spaced out differently at kinda ramdom..

Just wanted to say thanks! your method worked on my lock, even though the differences in the sticking points were ranging from 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, and 5, there were only 2 numbers that had a range of 5, so I took the average of the sticking points, which was 24-29, and 36-41, and averged them, them added and subtracted 7, and voila! the lock opened.
It had a black dial and the letter I in the back.

Is this lock new or old?

It's a pretty old lock, so I think that's why the sticking points were bigger than normal.
It's the first lock I ever opened, even with someones help, so I'm really excited to now try and expand my range to different kinds of locks.

yes, and I've found that doing it 3-4 numbers apart works well, because the lock has room for error.
e.g. say ur combo was 38, 50, 15, when you put in your numbers, the room for error could allow you to put in 40, 47, 19 and still open. It doesn't have to be dead on.
