This looks pretty good EE. I agree that having the spring contained is nicer, and that a uniform cylinder would be nicer to hold and use. Now, do you have to machining equipment ?

I could talk to a friend's dad and see if he'd be willing to help me construct this as I think he has a mill or access to a mill, and I know he has a metal lathe in his basement. Although I'd really like to get the whole issue of getting the spring attached to both A and C ironed out first. I'm more than open for suggestion.

Only thing really coming to mind is making the device out of a pourable material (aluminum [no access to a foundry of any sort though] or a hard plastic of some sort) and pouring around the spring, but I really don't think that's a suitable DIY solution.

EE, be careful not to increase the mass of the business end of the plug spinner you are modelling. I believe the reason that Tshock's device works so well is that the inertia of the tension wrench side of the spring is so low. This allows for rapid transfer of energy and the quick acceleration of the plug. The tiny springs that drive the pins never even have a chance.

Excellent Idea, I'll have to try that out, maybe an allen wrench with a flat head [grinded down] would work as well and keep your fingers from getting messed up?

Wow! This just saved me $60 or so. I must have 20 or so well used mouse traps on a shelf in my garage from back when I wasn't using poison. I'm going to make the 1/2" dowel deluxe model tomorrow.

The part of the spring that is close to the lock... could we get something like a copper pipe, cut a small slot in the end of pipe, slide the part of the spring sticking out in the slot, then take a copper cap, drill a hole in the cap size of wiper blade or whatever you chose that is sticking out, and cap it off. Hides spring, holds wiper blade in center and keeps spring from sliding back out end. Maybe with smaller copper tubeing, slide a piece over the handle end and flare out spring and wiper blade at end to hold in place. Just an idea I had. Might work might not. I just had to put it out there because I noticed in my few days I have been here on this site, if everyone puts their ideas together, everyone ends up with tools that look nice and also work like they were made too.
