Locksmith Courses (Foley-Belsaw)

Postby Gundanium » 6 Mar 2006 12:48

I'd just like to start a thread to attract those who are currently talking lock smithing courses like Foley-Belsaw.

I'd like to see other's views on how they think these courses are, and if it is better to study on your own (e.g. MIT guide, LP101, ordering your own stuff) OR if it is better to study from classes such as Foley-Belsaw or other.

My views are, I know most of the stuff Foley-Belsaw has sent me already just from my own curiousity, and since I keep my own general interest i've excelled in some areas so far.

Perks of Courses so far is it touches up on stuff I don't know that well, and will keep my skills "rounded" for the most part, but I do feel like Foley-Belsaw pushes you to buy a lot of things from them, and some of it seems to be a little outdated, like only offering informative video's on VHS and such.

But I do like my courses, I just like to see what others think!

p.s. I know this should maybe go under the locksmithing section, but I thought general chatter might be more appropriate.
someone love me!

Re: Locksmith Courses (Foley-Belsaw)

I'm currently only have lesson 30 left on the basic course and feel that the course is worth the money. It starts fairly simple and gets harder as you go along.

I have thought about doing a complete review of lesson 1-30 and posting it here. There are some other threads but not much was talked about.

There is a Yahoo group that only allows membership to fb students and graduates if you're interested.

Well maybe a new thread as the definitive one could be the answer,

'The foley belshaw official thread' or somthing,

Keep it to course notes and structure it so other students can join in and it will be great, maybe a thread for each chapter is the way to go, you move on to a new thread when you move to the new chapter that way others can visit the thread that applies to them and they wont get cluttered, after a while all problems with each chapter will have been discussed and it would be a helpful addition to the course.

Only my idea.

I like the idea, but there would be a problem with some of the lessons as far as discussion goes. Some of the lessons would only be allowed in the advance forums at this site.

If there is a way to do this I think it would be great.

If you have no formal type of training in locksmith i think those courses sound good. In fact i filled out one of the free information things on their website, i hear if you wait a while they will drop the price of the course and give you something. Being a person with a lot of free time and money im gonna try it when my self taught methods have been exhausted.

waiting for Foley belsaw to drop price?

Postby hippy5749 » 7 Apr 2006 17:39

You don't have to wait. All I did was call them and ask for the 599.00 price. They said O.K. Waiting for lessons 16 through 30 to show up now........ Is O.K. so far. Warded key impressioning took a couple of tries to get used to...... :)

At present I'm waiting on information to arrive from Foley Belsaw. I already have information from Penn Foster and PCDI. What those two offer seems very similar. I'm going to review all of them before deciding on which to enroll in. I want to be sure I get the most bang for my buck.

There's a lot of discussion about Foley Belsaw on here, but what about other schools likw PCDI,Penn Foster, Locksmith Video School, etc...

Anyone have anything to add on the "other" schools?

I am currently in the PCDI course and up to lesson 10 I am really happy with it so far. I also finished the Small Business Management course through PCDI so I was already used to their format. I really like the new feature of doing the exam online! (saving postage and getting instant results.) Quite nifty! :D

I also paid for the foley-belsaw course, it was ok, but it is only the basics of locksmithing. You can learn more online for free. After you finish the course they will keep sending you brochures for the important part of locksmithing or the finer side of it, which I turned down. Just keep practicing on your own it is just as good. Well I got a key cutting machine out of it Lol.

Do you just call them up? I've tried but only get a recording. So far they have sent me three ad sheets with different payment plans. The last one was $19 down and $37.00 a month but it's still the same $948.00. :?:
