First lock X5

Now i went to the local hardware store today and the only lock they had was an X5, now this will be my first pick, or first attempt anyway.

Now from what i hear this one is a real pain but is pickable now with my experience i understand i don't have a great chance but i would appreciate some pointers from people who have experience with this lock.

Urmh, that lock is actualy pretty tricky man!

This lock has 6 pins, and some double serrated spool pins, but I guess it has a fairly open keyway.

Well... It's a hard lock to start from, but if you insist, click my sig and look for: my guide on dissasembling locks, digital_blue's picking practice. Start from one pin, and work up.

I have serious doubts about your chances picking this, but I've seen starnger things happen.

:et us know how you get on with it - many people struggle with such a lock.

I know raking isn't the proper thing but i just got the raking tool out after 60 mins of raw hook tool, and a few rakes and turned the cylinder, for me and this lock i feel even that's an achievement ,thanks illusion.

Update: Opened it twice now (raking though) but opened it all the same.

I'm going to keep at it till i'm more confident with this lock, who knows i may even SPP it.

I'm chuffed, i just picked it with the hook tool. I was feeling and pushing up as i went along, most of the pins were up but it just wouldn't turn (it must not of been quite flush) but i had a poke and bingo the cylinder turned. I'm chuffed that i managed it with the snake and the hook.

Well i have to say i expected a poor biting of it but it isnt so all i can say is well done, you did well to rake that and also SPP it,

Drop the raking and practise SPP its where the fun is and doesnt damage the lock anywhere near as bad,

Theres nothing overly special about them, they are just a better quality lock than the standard ones, the spools jus make it a good step up from the norm but not as a first lock, youve done well young grass hopper lol

Thanks both. Any ideas what sort of lock to go for next ?

Although i forgot my first lock i picked was one of those wafer padlocks with a paper clip after finding this forum, but a trained chimp could pick one of those. This was my first "proper" pick and i've picked it another twice since my last post and i've got more of a feel for the pins now.
