When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Ok so... I've never made picks before, or anything. And I'm very new to picking... But heres my 2 pics I made today fresh off the grinder, no fine touches made yet. I have multiple other blanks made, just coming here to see what's the dilly with my DiY picks. PM me or something with advice maybe. I was kinda rushed.. Constructive criticism plz. lol

Nice picks hybridvirus, like locknewbie said, they need a little sanding, but other than that they look awesome, nice, even tang, nice curves, overall excellently done.
Nice curves, heheh

It is with sad regret to inform everyone this pick was decapitated quite suddenly, last Saturday night, while in a fierce struggle with a (rather crappy) Master lock #4.
The handle was good, but the neck was just too weak to hold on..
Don't worry, it did not suffer unnecessarily in any way.
ON another note, my friend with me there informed me he could pick, grabbed my personally made pick and tried the same lock, after a few seconds, I noticed he had the pick upside down in the lock, so I sent him to get another beer...

If your a hobbypicker, you shouldnt be using a credit card or a shovit tool.
I have a feeling your a criminal, so please leave LP101.
If you have a reasonable, and legitimate reason for using these, please explain.

i am not a crimanal i get locked out of my house alot... plus beyond that fact i wouldnt want to be broken into, i actualy want to be a profestional lock smith. but i am still in school... yay class of 07, beyond that the first thing i was taught to do was the credit card trick my dad taught me how to do it when i was like nine and i have been doing it ever since... i was fasinated when i picked my first master lock with a safty pin and a skrew driver and i have been trying to get a real set ever since i finaly got the tools to make them so i decided to. i am many things but a criminal i be not. i am slightly offended but i see where you are comming from assosateing the credit card and shovit tool to criminal acts. but i am not a criminal i am just sick of wasteing christmas gift certificates, you may ask why i dont just use my house key, well... you cant tell me you guys have never locked yourselves out on purpose for the sole purpus of practice.

well these aren´t actually the first first ones,
but still, they are from beginning cause i am still there at the square one.
thes are mostly done out of sewer rod and streetwiper bristles.

here the ones that upper one won´t show well
[img][/img]
the smaller squares on the paper are mm, bigger cm.
and heres a padlock cutaway.
what would be best for tension, i use street vioer bristles..?

most agree windshield wiper blade inserts are best for tensioners

As for your picks barbwir3, the overall shape looks quite good, and for tension wrenches you can use regular hacksaw blades thinned down, although I never have. I use either bent windshield wiper inserts or bent street sweeper bristles.
The only other material Ive ever used is junior hacksaw blades, they're a lot thinner, and springier, and make quite good tension wrenches.

hey thanks,
where are these used?
I don´t quite understand the word "windshield",
or it makes no sense to me, can´t combine it to any machine i know though..
Can any one tell which kinda shops sel this stuff,
or is the only way to find them on streets or to order from internet, i wouldn´t
feel comfortable doing that ?
it would be wery nice to get some comments about my picks too.
