Sorry for the double post, but I was Just was looking through his feedback, and Hes pulled crap like this before.

And he has an 88.2% feedback score. Hopefully that will scare some people off.

Selling downloaded material from a web site that does not play?????? Bad news..

The video is just a copy .rm format CD-Rom (can't be read by DVD player).
Reply by blackdeath702: It was never stated to be a DVD. It was a CD. Please read next time or e-mail.

I think youtube is like all the other hosts you can place images and videos where you have a choice to make it public or not. If thats the case no copyright infringement although jimb might be able to switch it to private if youtube has that feature.

As for ebay, I agree that is poor marketing to use some one else's video even if it was made public. He's using jimb's video and invention to make money from ebay.

Is there any way one could simply switch the videos on youtube? As long as the file name is the same it should work! If this guy is hotlinking, jimb could make a quick video if the bump gun NOT working, or even falling apart :)

Now that would be priceless!

or with scrolling text that says, "You #$%@&* idiot!", or, er, worse. You make the choice.

I think I'll fiddle around with one of these things though...but, hehe, won't list it on Ebay like that scumbag.

A guy I know did something similar... Someone was using images from his website to advertise his items for auction on Gunbroker. This was a lot of images too, 10-20 images. So, overnight, the guy changed all the images to gay porn. Oddly enough, he never had that problem again.

Yea, that happens to me a lot on my marketing blogs where I make my own custom ad banners for programs I sell through affiliate programs. Any one can join the affiliate programs and use the banners that come with it, but some like to hotlink to my custom (copyright) banners instead. What I do is change the file of my banners to some thing else then make a replacement for the scumbags. I never thought of the gay porn thing! I was just replacing it with self incriminating text, like, well never mind, lets just say it wasn't very nice. They stopped too!

I've been out for a few hours and I'm about 14 hours into a 24-hour shift and I’m tired, so I'll try not to say anything stupid.

My feelings are that I don't care if anyone builds and even sells this devise. What bothers me is that he used a video that I created and did not even bother to ask. It also bothers me that he's selling it on ebay when I'm sure it's against their policy.

The sad part of it is that this devise was only build to try to make something that looked more professional than beating a key into a lock, and to see if it could be done. It does work but those buying it are going to be disappointed. It's heavy and ugly and a screwdriver handle is easier to bump with.

I sold printing for 9 or the 29 years I was in the printing business and I use to try to keep up with copyright laws. Unless they have changed only the creator of the material can own the copyright. So if there is any copyright infringement it's with the use of the video. By law he has every right to build and sell it, I just don't like how he's doing it.

That was good. If someone would like to create something I might just see if I can switch it out.

I have disabled the ability to embed this video on other websites. It should no longer play.

You are right. Where it gets a little complicated is on the Internet which I've been involved in for awhile. Usually it's very clear cut like you pointed out. If he had been hotlinking your video from your website it would clearly be a copyright infringement But youtube is a little different. Your broadcasting and permitting hotlinking unless you forbid it like you just did. I'm not a lawyer but I'm sure there would be (costly) exceptions.

You could still if you wanted to go after this guy for copyright infringement and may be even win! The law gets a little murky in cases like this. You definitely have a lot of good reasons to be angry, I would be too.

I'm just glad you found a easy solution. I see copyright infringement with my material on a regularly basis. Going after them would be too costly for me. Thankfully a DMCA is usually enough in most cases to at least cease the continued infringement, but to seek damages or any thing else is just not worth it for me.

BTW, I did see your video and made my own. It does work! That was a great idea. I suppose in a way you could take it as a compliment seeing it on ebay in a weird way that is. Obviously it's marketable ;)

just noticed the thread

Postby raimundo » 10 Aug 2006 9:01

wow, this thread is five pages and i finally noticed it. Thanks jimb for making the prototype, now I think that I'll make a shiny version  with a few little tweeks. I think this or something like it could be the answer to the "how come we cant bump tubular locks?" question if its tweeked enough.
first reactions to seeing the thing, make as much of it out of plastic as possible, it dosent have to be tubular, it could be flattened tubes, certain surfaces, such as the key grip and the striking face of the inner tube may need some metal, but the weight could probably be reduced with plastic. Does anyone here know anything about molding plastics, and the materials of plastic itself, (glock makes some durable plastic)
