I have picked car locks in the past, but I'm not very good at it. I have only picked locks that I own and don't really care if I break them. Until you have a good understanding of what you are doing it is a bad idea to even attempt to pick a car lock that you care about, they are very fragile and will damage easily. Your best bet is to call a locksmith.

Hmmm. first post requesting information on how to open a motor vehicle. You need two tools, one is your local telephone book the second is a telephone.

Open the telephone book and look under "L" for locksmith (usually found between "K" and "M").

Select a company advertising under "Locksmith" and note the series of numbers located on the advert - (hint these are often in a larger print).

Pick up the telephone and press the identical sequence of numbers in. If you have carried this operation out correctly you will hear a voice usually saying something like "Hello.... John Smith Locksmiths, how can I help?". Speak slowly and tell them where the car is, what colour it is, the registration information and give him your credit card details. Within 10 to 15 minutes after he has confirmed that the card and telephone number you gave are genuine he (or she) will come out and the car will be open.

Easy as that!

Yeah dude, don't ever try to pick a vehicle's lock unless you've been trained and you're doing it legally; you obviously aren't following either of those rules.

other people have recommended using a key and calling a locksmith. not only becuase you should only open locks that belong to you, but car locks are very fragile... and can easily be damaged if you don't (even if you do) know exactly what you are doing.

And if you do have legal intentions at heart, but you manage to break the lock, you will end up paying out alot more money than paying a locksmith to pick the lock.

Judging from the post, and that its a mini van, I don't see anything that would leave me thinking he is up to illegal activities but, none the less a locksmith is still his best bet.

Exactly. I don't necessarily think illegal here.

The best way is to use your key, or a spare key. If that's not an option, the best way is to call a locksmith. If you'd rather not, the best way IS NOT to pick the lock. I don't have a Venture in front of me, so I can't give you specifics (and I wouldn't anyway, since I have no clue who you are, and I can't even say that you told me it was your car), but I can guarantee that the best way isn't to pick the lock.

If its a double sided wafer keyway I'd use my double full circle pick and a double sided torque wrench. If it is a single sided wafer I'd use a half cirle or half diamond. That's raking it though. Also that's just my opinion so take it accordingly. Why do you need to pick it?

FYI the Chev Venture is single-sided wafer with SIDEBAR.
