Padlocks to doors?

I have a problem. I can pick most padlocks pretty easily.. I've picked about two big padlocks, with four pins, and a few small easy ones with only three. I've picked them thousands of times, yet I cannot for the life of me pick doors. The doors as far as I can tell have 6 pins, surely two more pins cant make it that much harder?

kinda early so my paintence is low, sorry.

Yes it can make a huge difference, with about a dozen different factors, from brand to pins used to keyway......ect

My suggestion is that you start HERE

if i could make it flash I would, doubt it would help...sigh.....

next question you have first search for it, and if all else fails be more specific and if you can pictures,

Depends on what kind of pins are they. What brand of lock are you working with? Security pins even in a medium quality lock can sometimes really be quite the obstacle. If the padlocks you were picking were low quality with high tolerances - they wouldn't take a lot of skill to open. And now, when faced with a quality-made product, you could have some problems.
Are you setting any of the pins in that lock? Mabey the plug turns a few degrees and then blocks after you wiggle in the lock a bit?

What most people do is they buy some cheep locks to practise on, and slowly work their way up. There even was a thread somewhere of which locks to buy for practise on which skill level.

The most common solution is 'do not give up'. It is bound to open with time.

Sometimes when I release the tension I can hear a couple of pins clicking back. Usually 3-4 though, but sometimes I dont hear any, do you need to apply extra tension for locks with more pins?. I dont think they are any special security locks, and the pins just seem like ordinary ones to me.

It may be hard to tell if there are any security pins, especially if one would have little experiance with those. It would be more likely that you need to apply not more, but less tension on the lock.
The link posted by UWSDWF to dbs' excercise is a good start. If you can get your hands on a cylinder, you should try it.
If you are looking for cheep locks - try a flee market, or simply ask a locksmith if he has any old ones to spare. Most likely someone will help you.
Can you tell if there is anything written on the lock? A picture, like UWSDWF said, would be of help in identifying the difficulty level of the lock you have.

Yeah, I bought a #3 myself a week ago. I swear it pops open just by puting a pick in it. Even my girlfriend (who was very against me picking at first) can pick my #3, and she actually enjoys doing it now haha.

Bought a Kwickset door knob last night to do the db excersizes, and can't get the plug out for the life of me lol. But I can pick that one open too. Thinking about going back and buying a KS deadbolt today. Not sure though hehe.

pulling the cylinder out of the deadbolt is a little easier

kwikset light duties are just too easy! Seriously, you will be disapointed, they are on line to the master #3. Get some thing else that will keep u entertained for a while

UWSDWF... thank you, that really made me feel dumb lol.

Yeah, I obliterated that spring, spindle, retaining plate. Basically, I have the knob with the big bronze piece of metal sticking out of the back of it haha.

Don't have the time to check for myself right now as that I'm leaving soon (mmm corn roast... free corn for three hours...). Any idea on either a place to buy the removal tool, or find a template to make one?
