OK, I did the search, and couldnt find it there, and I didnt want to bother you guys with this, but its bugging me. I've picked Master No. 575 & 130, and a lot of other smaller Master locks with out problems. But this lock has me stumped. It's a master lock No. 7. Its a small space, so picking is hard, but it shouldn't be this hard. Its a bran new lock, And I have the key as a guide, but no luck. Maybe I need a smaller hook. Let me know if this lock gave anyone else problems. It seems like such an easy lock, but I still cant seem to get it.
Also, I'm new to the board, and am very impressed with the knowladge that everone has, I very much enjoyed reading all the posts. Y'all are great,
Nick

Yes, *hides my head in shame...*
Its so awful that i cant get it. I think its because my picks are too large, Its such a cheap lock, it should be easy.

If your picks are too small then your picks are too small, no question. Try using a small diamond (grind it down if you have to,) or a Peterson reach if you have one.

I find the half diamond the best for the master low number series

This is exactly what I have been using for the No. 3. Never worked on a No. 7 yet, i will only get chance if i see some master locks at garage sales because I will not pay full price for their locks anymore... lol

Okay i am guessing your lock is the one with the yellowish kinda orangish wrap around the bottom.
If so its really the same M1 key way, R70's master's ony other key way is the m5? i think for the contractor grade ones with the fully visual core, then theres the 150 discus that share the smae keyway.
I don't have them there my keydex up stairs.
Youmight try added a strong tension meaning don't crank it, just add enoguh to get a distinct click, at time you have to realse a little tension.
But i kow for a fact its M1 there for a standard twist flew will work, might want to go without a twist flex and just a straight one your choice.
theres a horizontal ward you can rest you pick on.
Heres also an exaple of the 150 key way for the heck of it since i said there were a few.
Any other questions just ask.. or post a picture of oyu key way or jsut key.
Andy

looks the same as a #5, same keyway, and design. I have 2. One I can pick consistantly under 20 seconds, the other always takes 3-5 minutes! The easy one is old, the new one is harder.

FWIW the trick for me quickly picking the no.7 was using my smallest wrench. it's so narrow it just barely 'catches' at the bottom almost pointing straight down with the keyhole. the key opening at the bottom is 2mm, while the torque wrench is about 2.2mm wide. so it basically leaves the entire keyhole open to the picks. w/ this smaller wrench it's just as easy as all the other master locks. i can pop it w/ my normal/wider torques but it's much more of a PITA. the smaller wrench that works more reliably for me is the tw-11 "thin line" from southord.

The no7 looks to be the same as the no5 accept a little smaller in over all size, same keyway, 4 pin cylinder. Like I said I have two no5 masters, a old one and a new one. The new one is harder to pick, takes a little longer.
More importantly, the new one has a totally different pin structure. 3 pins are set very high and one of the middle pins is set to 9! So 3 of the pins it feels they hardly move, while one is always in the way
Just makes it harder to rake, can still be picked easy if you know what you got or can visualize. It did throw me the first time too! I wondered what happened to the pins.

I was wondering why I couldnt rake it no matter how hard I tried. I will have to have a go at it again tonight and see what I can do. Even my chapter president coudnt get it. I'm so tempted to take it apart to see whats going on. But I dont want to give up that easily, maybe I'll just keep it as a souviner as to how even the little locks can beat us all sometimes,
