look up the toool video on bumping. it's on this site somewhere - or you can go directly to their web site.

I believe Andy has a great link for new members ready to jump into bumpkeying, it's all in flash and does a great job of explaining some of the finer details.

basically, you need to file a tiny portion of the shoulder and tip off. go slow, don't take too much off at once. you want the cuts of the bump key to make contact with the bottom pins, which will slightly push the key back due to the pressure from the springs. too big of a gap is bad, we're talking about, oh say, 1/16th of an inch or so. when you "bump" the key, it should cause the driver pins to "jump", thus opening up a gap at the sheer line to turn the key.

just pull out

Postby raimundo » 15 Aug 2006 9:29

Ya don't need to cut the shoulders, just insert the key then pull it back out one pin, and hit it with the right piece of wood.

I retired the waffel vid, i just have a look into posts like these, but jsut go back to the manual pick section where i go when i come here.

I don't want to get banned, so i just my opinions to myself.

Really now i think there realyl should be a bumpy key sticky.. if anyone cares enugh to do it.

Other than that, i am going to work.

raimundo is right. You can use what is called the "pull back" method. You insert the key and then pull it out one space then hit it in with a screw driver handle or a hickory hammer handle, etc. Good luck.
