The Green Pick

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

The Green Pick

Postby quickpicks » 21 Aug 2006 13:00

Well I am not sure if it is green as in environmentally friendly but it was made from recycled PCB board. I made it in about 3 minutes with a dremel and it can be used to pick master locks, schlage, etc. It is not very strong and is not intended for more than 10 uses but it does have a few benefits:

It is virtually undetectable
It can be used to open special locks such as the "EZ Set"
It can be made quickly
It does not rust.
It looks cool 8)

I dont really need this. Its just a concept I came up with when i was staring at some of the random computer parts on my desk.
This was meant to be a fun little experiment with pick materials, nothing more, nothing less.

Cant see it due to your background,

The copper on the board may show up on metal detectors and the shape will show up on infared scanners,

Dont grind circuit board as the dust is hazardus, if you have to make sure your well ventilated and you wear a mask,

I actually do all of my work on my front step. After all its just about the best venallation one could get and its free. I used a piece of bare PCB board to there are no copper tracks, etc.

That's really neat, but I was wondering what PCB board was, but its just an ordinary circuit board? How thick is it, and Where did you find a blank piece?

Overall, pretty sweet, but I have heard that the dust is really bad for you, just like most dusts these days!

The piece of PCB board came out of a thumb drive I took apart. It was about 1.5mm thick and I did a little bit of grinding to it so it could be easily placed in a keyway.

Ive often wondered and always mean to try a carbon fibre pick,

wierd picks

Postby scampdog » 21 Aug 2006 20:19

just a bit of fun,but you can make picks out of old cd's,they dont last very long, but its wierd, because if you scrape all the silver off, you can see right through your picks.(need large keyways though)

Interesting, i like the idea of using something other than metal.. undetechable isn;t really my concern, but i do see you logic, well i see it as you can open you lock with it withut getting pin dust after multiple try's.

I don't know if cabon fiber would work, would look pretty sweet though.

I was going to make one out of a CD, or use it as a handle ithought it would look cool.

Ha unrelated but my cousin has an infactuation wiht my Splinte cell and rainbow six games.. anywho.

That disopsable pick they invented, the one where is for whooshhhh and opens a lock. Its really an outline of the first model tubular pick :D

Look it up on google pictures you'll see the SO tubular pcik outline.. cracked me up.

There is no reason why a CF pick wouldn't work, it's one of the best new composites out there. Strong yet lightweight, and easy to work with sanding tool (just use really good ventilation, CF dust is deadly).

I think a CF pick would be great not only because it would be strong, but I love the look of the woven material.
