There is no reason why a CF pick wouldn't work, it's one of the best new composites out there. Strong yet lightweight, and easy to work with sanding tool (just use really good ventilation, CF dust is deadly).

I think a CF pick would be great not only because it would be strong, but I love the look of the woven material.

And a carbon fibre pick(s)? Oh yeah!

I have some carbon fiber that was for electrical wire, I thought it was going to be strong on its own, but came to find out that its not really so perhaps there are different grades of carbon fiber, or perhaps with the epoxy added, it changes.

It's undetecteable until you have to sit down, at which point the pick snaps and the sharp part finds it's way into your quadraceps. Then your eyes cross, your toes curl, the tounge wags out, and your mouth emits a blood curling howl.

Yes I am taking the piss a little, but I've done this exact thing with one of those cheap-o auto joggler picks. I've been maing picks with hotel card keys for a while - I never though to use circutboard.

Lots of interesting materials mentioned here, since i have trashed cd's I am going to attempt that one first... then onto carbon fiber if I can find a source in my area for it.

I am assuming anything can be used in a pinch, a hook is a hook and a half diamond can be pulled off maybe even a simple rake. For something more long term it would have to be a flexible yet resiliant (sp) material.

SFGOON - is the material that the card keys are made from similar to credit card material or is thicker like a student card from colleges or universities or the ones that are given out at spam's for collecting points off of play?

Try the Resin and Activator used to do Fiberglass repairs, being they are both similar fiberous materials, it will work. To get a flat piece, lay out some aluminum foil shiny side up then your CF material, pour or squeegy activated resin on then apply another piece of foil or even saran wrap or similar clear plastic sheeting on top and lightly squeegy air bubbles out. An alternative to squeegying is to create a vacuum to suck out the air.

I have some CF rods for RC vehicle making but no cloth, I think I will check out my area and see what I can get too.

Oh your touching on model plane wing finishing there, what i was going to do today will be put off until tomorrow now but yes, put the 'sandwich' into a bag and then between two heavy books, such the air out the bag with a vacume cleaner for a min and it should pull the air out,

The material im useing is the carbon fibreas used to strengthen wings etc, they come as separate fibres, i plan to weave them slightly and then make a sandwich of around 3 layers of fibre,

I will also be useing the glas fibre resin as it works well with the carbon fibres,
