Buick - Park Ave

Can anyone help with a 'Favour Job' we have taken on. One of our local scap yards has sold a recovered Buick Park Ave to an African guy who wants to export it back home. Problem - no keys, so as he cannot start and drive the car he can't send it. We have removed one of the door locks and tried impressioning but is not giving us all the cuts, and the only way of stripping the lock would almost certainly cause irrepairable damage, we have come to a standstill. Also as we believe this is a 1991 model, not only will the ignition key be differant from the door key, it will almost certainly be on the VAT system. Does anyone know, if we provide the chassis number, can we get the relavant imformation regarding the key cut code and which VAT key we need for this car? Gm have not been any help at all in the UK. Any of our American friends help? 2nd hand lockset, new lockset or any information would be a great help. The vehicle was last registered in Holland, but we have no dealer history at all.

well i dont know much. i know that carfax.com (could be spelled carfacts) does something about vehicle history over here in the states, and i think you just submit your vehicle reg number and like $25 USD. and it tells you all known history of your car.

other than that i havent a clue.

Honestly, you'll have the best luck contacting a Ford dealer. I would venture to guess that even the UK dealers would be able to special request codes.

Another option you have is you can remove the door locks and trunk lock or boot lock as some of my UK friends call it and replace them with new ones. The ignition can also be removed from the column and replaced with a new one you just have to get the new key coded to the car.

I don't understand why a GM dealership can't cut and code the key for you using the VIN from the car unless they think you are trying to steal the car.

An auto lockie should be able to do all this for you, you dont need to just recode the key but recode the ecu/s so the original chip no longer works,
Call around the auto lockies until you find one that will come and sort it out for you, this cost can either be put down to experiance in not taking on work you cant do or simply you add it to the person who has bought the car.

GM won't help with codes not because they can't, but because they won't. 1991 is too old to get codes by VIN. Your only option is to either decode the locks you have or replace them with new ones. Might want to have a surf around the net for a friendly lockSMITHING forum.
