New Zealand Locks

Are the locks in NZ considered European/Japanese or American?

I saw another thread for Aussie locks but didn't want to hijack it.

Assuming that there are alot of lockwood locks in NZ you will find that depending on the profile of the keyway they will be right inbetween american and euro.

I've never heard of lockwood locks, but assuming they were... if I were to get some lockpicks, should I go for the normal ones or the slim set?

Strange question  New Zealand is much closer to Australia than any of the above three and odds on uses mostly imported Aussie Lockwood locks.

If you are talking about the actual format of the locks, then I have to say I don't know, but my guess would be oval and rim cylinders mostly with some profile cyls.

Indeed....strange question.....

I have worked in NZ....and worked with alot of NZ lockies and the common locks there are the Australian Lockwood variety originally owned by Ogden Industries. (now Assa-Abloy Asia-Pacific).

Most common there, are LW nightlatches, 001's, deadbolts, 570 mortice locks, 500 series and 530 series knobs, lever locksets. Lockwood and Efco are the more common architectural range and are considered the industry standard.

You will find Gainsborough, Stanley, Boyd (Schlage), Kwikset, Weiser, Weslock, Cisa, Yale, Lane and others too.

Oval mortice cylinders are more common than round threaded mortice like Adams Rite (Kawneer) although you will find some old Astra round, studded cylinders.

There are alot of imported (el cheapo) locksets too, both knobsets and rimlocks and mortice locks. But the Standard is Lockwood.

Went out window shopping in the weekend and kept my eyes open. Most of the locks for sale were China made, in fact, every lock that I bothered to check bore the proud 'Made in China' stamp. Even the Chubb locks.

I was in Bunnings and Mitre 10 and the Warehouse, and 'Chubb' was the only recognisable real lock brand. The rest were local generic kinds like 'Stay Safe'. Supposedly Kiwi brands, but lovingly made in China of course.
