Hey guys,
I bought a new 'Master padlock' a few weeks ago or so. I have only been able to shim it once. I swear these new padlocks are shim proof. I think i read something somewhere once that said they have a new double ball dew hickey in them which makes them shim proof ? Can anybody clarify this for me.

Edit: I meant to say Master combo locks. The standard ones you find in schools. I have tried forever to try and shim this padlock.

Since you mentioned you have shimmed it once, then I would say it is not shim proof.
If you bought this lock then you should have the combination to it. Dial it in, pull up the shackle and swing it around where you can look down the hole and see if there is a ball bearing in it like an American lock.

Um, yeah, if you shimmed it once, then I bet you could do it again. Practice practice practice. I've heard that you can shim a double-balled padlock, am I correct? Come on people...correct me if I'm wrong.

yes you can, I saw a video of someone doing it, you just have to use a shim on each side.

Yes, that was my understanding...just put a shim on either ball (of the lock of course...no puns jokes intended, hehe).
Will have to make some shims and go test it out...never really tried shims, but I guess theres a first time for everything.

You cant shim balled padlockes but you can shim a double dogged padlock,
Look for the shimming a tricircle thread and i have a video posted there of me doing it,
A ball mech cant be shimmed due to the way they are constructed,
If the shackle is springy when pressed in then it should be shimmable,
If once opened with the key to check if its a double latch system look at the fixed side of the shackle you should see a notch out of the shackle like the is on the opening side,
Cheaper double latched padlocks can also be opened with one shim if you are careful, you would shim the opening side first and then the fixed side,

that answer something for me, I was trying to shim a double-balled padlock and wrecked a few shims on it. And I was thinking about the way it was construced earlier, and couldn't figure out how a ball-padlock could be shimmed if the ball had a wall against it. That makes sense now, thanks.

Yes, I have a newer Master combo lock and it tears the shim up each time I do it. I don't use it as a demonstration anymore even though it's always fun to see peoples eye's widen when they see this particular lock get shimed. I settled on a 60 year old Yale padlock for this demo, the tolerances are relaxed more and my shims get hardly any wear each time.

Dosman, why are you goign around showing people this? are you a traveling rep for such things or are you in school showing off?
If the later you will be prime suspect when anything goes missing and you shouldnt be putting yourself in that situation,

Yep, kinda like crying wolf.
"Look here! See how it easy it is to open!"
Next conversation, said by large dope pusher, in the sound of Mr. T:
"Where's my stuff, Sucka!?!? You better have some answers soon. We know you got the knowledge and ways to do it...my stuff is missing. Talk, you fool!"
*SIGH*

Do you mean to say that you never introduce new people to locksport? Don't you put yourselves in the same position when ever anyone you know finds out that you can pick locks?
I only use my own locks and only show friends or new people that I am comfortable with. I don't carry picks or shims with me at all times looking to spook people with my 'l337 sk1lls'.
I didn't think my post came off as a mouthy teenager, I was mostly trying to confirm that I find the the newer Master Combo locks do damage my shims more. I don't have much reason to have them except to show people why not to use Master Combo locks.

So let's all get along, "And the world....will be a better place...for me...and you...o yeah!"
Anyway, I think he's defended himself as not some punk teen. Which I don't think Shrub accused him of. Still, showing lockpicking/shimming skills at school...well, I guess it's all opinion.
Just be ready when that Mr. T pusher rams you against the wall.
