Cannot manage to bump masterlock #3

Postby riffman2525 » 29 Aug 2006 23:20

Hey guys, I'm a noob in training. With practice I have gotten pretty good at bumping open my front and back doors, but I cant seem to bump open a masterlock #3 that I went out and bought to play with. I've searched the forums and read several pieces on bumping masterlocks and even watched a few videos...I cant figure out what is wrong....with the shoulders on my other bump keys taken down they have the springy effect and come out of the cylinder a bit....this does not happen with the master key, It doesnt seem to back out of the cylinder at all, Im afraid to ruin my key by taking off more from the shoulder. That's the only thing I cant think of doing at this point. My key is a 999 cut key cut on a machine, with the tip taken down 1mm and the shoulder taken down .5 mm ............ thanks for you time and help :D

Forget the key. Be afraid of ruining the locks on your parents doors. Repeated practicing on "live" locks can make them unusable. In an emergency, you may find that the normal key no longer works.

Put the same effort into picking that you are putting into bumping and you will progress a lot faster.

Well, im aware of the risk. It's my locks and I will ruin 20 a week if i feel like it. Im not a kid, so i dont need to be constantly warned about the "dangers" of bumping. I am also getting into picking, but you must understand the lure of bumping.......it's fun...it's fast.....so it's a confidence builder.....So I would appreciate it if you would stick to the topic of my question.

Take a little more off your shoulder and give the depths a slight touch with a file to make a 9.5

i know why you are having so much trouble.

its because you have less than 50 posts and are trying to bump.

if you wait until you have at least 50 quality posts, then try bumping, im sure it will work MUCH better.

Thank you I wil give it a shot. Krypos I dont know why the hostility towards noobs....Im doing the best I can to perfect things on my own...but unfortunately not all of us have unlimited access to hardware. Keys in this instance. I just dont want to ruin my stuff.....practice is good....breaking hard to come by stuff that cost money is bad.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic or hostile, but why on earth would you want to bump a master #3? It can be raked with in 10 seconds with your choice of pick with very little skill. Picking it is harder, but raking it is insanely easy, just as fast as bumping, if not faster.
