ive picked these sort of handcuffs before and was quite easy to do
i just used a bit if strong wire shaped into a small "L" and went around the pin in the center of the hey way and hey persto the cuffs came off

Hands behind your back, thumbs up, keyway out, double-locked--if you want realistic, that's how it's going to be done by a LEO.

For anyone curious about which types of handcuffs are in common use by LE so they can go buy a pair off of ebay and try to get out of them, the most common brand in the U.S. is Smith&Wesson, followed closely by Peerless, then ASP. They all use the same keyway and can all be opened with the same key. They're essentially a VERY simple warded locking mechanism. There are high-security ones that use Medeco cam locks (Peerless makes these), or ones by Chubb that use the AVA locking mechanism.

Any one watch Cops on tv? Some times I see them use what looks like cheap plastic tie ups you might see in a produce store. I realize they must be effective, any idea what they are? It doesn't look like any key is used at all.

They are mainly for large scale use, example riots. They are very uncomfortable, and they also make one with a keyway built into the locking mechanism, so they can be reused. Most though are a one time use, and than cut when done.

indust. size tie wraps or zap straps (only difference is that these don't have the un-sharpened edges) whatever you like to call them work quite effectivly. the good thing about them is you can carry 50 of them easily on you belt, tac vest or webbing without in hibiting movement

I sure hope cops get better prices then those listed! If these are disposable, that would be pretty expensive :shock:

man there are alot of escape artists out there....
out of all the people I've handcuffed in the years I've been doing LE not one got their cuffs off. The worst I had was a guy who jumped them to the front while in a holding cell and he got an "attitude adjustment" then recuffed palms out with hinges.

Hmm...

2 three pin (four pin?) Medeco cam locks on those handcuffs... Probably behind your back, in an awkward postion, being watched likely by a guard... I don't reckon you'd get those off personaly.

The plastic ones... You can break the heavy duty nylon zip-ties - my mate who lifts weights and does intense arm muscle training proved it several weeks back when he was challenged to get out of them. I don't know about the plastic ones shown in the photo though.

Thats because most don't want to get an attitude adjustment or the situation doesn't warrant the risk involved. Why bother escaping if you'll be out on bail in a couple of hours, which probably make up most of the cases. If some one is facing serious time, no bail, that would be the one who may risk a attitude adjustment
